Owner and photographer Sarah Kobunski leads aspiring sharpshooters to a greater understanding of snapping techniques with workshops at Desired Focus Photography. Each class begins with two hours of studio time, where pupils will learn the how to use their DSLR cameras' manual mode, with instruction covering aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and how to work the camera's clutch. Students will also receive tips on how to best compose pictures when using automatic mode, as well as proper employment of light through natural sources, flash, and white balance to capture subjects in natural poses. Once out of the studio, the class will roam through the city on a one-hour photo safari, bringing their newfound skills to bear on every interesting model and landmark they come across.
Pupils in the Photo Editing workshop learn the photo-editing ropes of Corel PaintShop Pro, enhancing images over the course of a 1.5-hour course. Demonstrated techniques include lighting correction, complexion smoothing, removing errant wrinkles and pimples, and pasting in images of Abraham Lincoln's beard. A laptop is required for this workshop.
Photographing participants of each workshop take home a reference guide for future memory-catching situations, with helpful sample pictures that can be cut out and palmed off as original work. Find upcoming class times through the online schedule.
