While attractive to the eye, jewellery can also be used for self-defense — providing camouflage in wildflower gardens and reflecting light into the eyes of charging art collectors. Practice fashionable survival with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of glass jewellery and specialty pieces at Fireworx in Moose Jaw.
Fireworx's Sabine Arends crafts her jewellery, bowls, and other eye-catching creations from hand-cut glass. Fusing three or more layers of liquid light, Sabine inter-lays her standard coloured glass with pieces of dichroic glass. The multi-layered glass reflects a variety of colours as it peacocks with a metallic sheen, changing its hue depending on the angle of the sun’s mesmerized stare. During a 10–12 hour fusion, Sabine often re-shapes impressionable baby glass before a final firepolish to achieve a variety of custom crafts. Customers can choose to adopt any piece in the store, including handmade glass pendants ($10 small, $34 large) and glass and dichroic glass bowls (starting at $29) that create stately centrepieces whether holding visible or invisible fruit.
