Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters
In the past, aquariums provided a one-sided experience: visitors on one side of the glass and animals on the other. But Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters lets visitors get a closer look—and feel—at its myriad fish and mammals, and even welcomes guests into many of the tanks. Read on to see how you can get under the sea:
Encounters: Guests interact with sharks, as part of one of the aquarium's many encounter attractions. Take the Nurse-ry Encounter, which pairs visitors with a marine biologist for an experience with docile stingrays and juvenile nurse sharks that includes training new arrivals and swimming among them.
Feedings: Thanks to creative technology, guests can safely feed predatory animals. The Coral Reef Encounter features underwater feeding ports, allowing visitors to hand feed four species of sharks without fear.
Snorkeling: During the Lagoon Encounter, visitors take a dip in the complex ecosystem of a coastal lagoon. The saltwater lagoon enclosure, ranging from 2–20 feet deep, features a colorful array of coastal marine life—even enormous groupers.
