Smooth jazz is the sound of sophistication, unlike rough jazz, which is the sound of Louis Armstrong blasting chili out of his trumpet. "There are many music festivals that call themselves 'Jazz' events, but are all too often watered down with other types of music," says Carmen Cartiglia, founder and producer of the 2012 Miami Jazz Fest, on the festival’s webpage. To celebrate jazz in its purest form, Cartiglia has created a two-day festival that revolves around a lineup of true jazz musicians culled from around the globe. The first night of the event focuses on the exotic melodies and flavorful notes of Brazilian jazz, guided by musicians such as Trio da Paz, a group defined by its daring improvisations and the intricate rhythms of Grammy-nominated drummer Duduka Da Fonseca. Also bringing the sounds of Rio is vocalist Maucha Adnet, an artist who formerly recorded with legendary composer Antonio Carlos Jobim. Straightforward compositions dominate Klipsch Amphitheater's stage on the second day, inundating audiences with the no-nonsense melodies of such artists as The Don Friedman Quartet and saxophonist Jesse Jones, an artist whose swinging interpretations of jazz classics unites audience members without stapling their shoelaces together.
Due to security restrictions, G-Passes must be printed out and presented in person at the event. They cannot be redeemed through Groupon's mobile app.
