Salute the healing art of comedy with today's Groupon: for $9, you get either one $20 ticket to a weekend show or four tickets to a weekday show at The Comedy Store in La Jolla (up to a $60 value). Specify which package you prefer when you call The Comedy Store to redeem your Groupon. All shows are for ages 21 and older and have a two-drink minimum. This Groupon is not valid for special events, such as $25 ticket shows.
The original Comedy Store—which, at its Los Angeles location, has helped launch the careers of professional funny-bone ticklers such as Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey, George Carlin, David Letterman, and Dave Chappelle—unleashes a beehive of belly laughs five nights a week. The upcoming calendar of shows (up to $20 for weekend tickets; regularly $8, $10, or $15 for weekday tickets) includes a double side-splitter on November 4 and 5 by Leslie Jones, who has entertained the masses on sitcoms such as Coach and showcases such as Comedy Central's Premium Blend. On November 11 and 12, veteran funnyman Jimmy Shubert will stop by, slinging side-splitting comedy that garnered him his own Comedy Central special and five years on The King of Queens. On weekdays, The Best of San Diego sparks laughs with a coterie of San Diego's established and up-and-coming comedians and houseplants. Sunday Shenanigans treats chucklers to live music and cocktail service as The Comedy Store's regular comics take the stage before politely giving it back after realizing it wont fit in their pockets. To remedy uncomfortable games of musical chairs, tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
The Comedy Store
What’s now known as The Comedy Store was once called Ciro's, a nightlife hotspot in the 1940s and '50s. Playing host to glitzy stars and shadowy mobsters, the club's history is shrouded in rumors of mafia assassinations and untimely deaths. However, the joint buried its seedy past by converting to a comedy club and helping launch the careers of such legends as Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey, George Carlin, David Letterman, and Dave Chappelle. The younger La Jolla location lets laugh-starved patrons bask in the same high-powered comedic atmosphere as its progenitor.
