What You’ll Do
Basics facts about oysters—Where do they come from? How do they differ from one another?—can be as murky as the waters they inhabit. During this two-hour workshop, seafood expert Crystal Cun demystifies the oyster, answering common questions and giving a hands-on demonstration on how to shuck your own mollusks. In between the 101 lesson and shucking practice, you’ll develop an understanding of oyster flavor profiles with a tasting of 5 distinct varieties (2 of each) from the East and West Coasts.
Crystal covers the essentials of oyster geography, history, and aquaculture techniques.
Sample 5 types of oysters (2 of each) from the East and West Coasts and learn to identify each by their distinctive flavors, textures, and degrees of salinity. You’ll take home handouts on oyster species and flavor profiles.
Watch Crystal’s oyster-shucking demonstration before taking a crack for yourself.
Sip a select wine or beer as you learn about which beverage best matches with each type of oyster.
