Peter Pan swoops onstage to dazzle eyes of all ages in a ballet adaptation of J. M. Barrie’s beloved tale. In Neverland, children stay young forever, and no mothers are around to send them to bed. There, the mischievous Lost Boys and their leader, Peter, engage in an unending battle with Captain Hook and his band of pirates, but when Peter brings the Darling children from a far-away land, things begin to change. Jealously tints Tinkerbell’s magic, love cracks Peter’s juvenile manner, and the Lost Boys’ battle with the pirates take on a newfound gravity. The cast takes flight with the choreography of The Washington Ballet’s Septime Webre, set to Carmon DeLeone’s music.
Cinderella’s ball. Sleeping Beauty’s long nap. Romeo and Juliet’s breathless balcony meeting. These are just a few of the iconic scenes rendered with toe shoes and talent at Ballet Hawaii. The non-profit organization makes staging such awe-inspiring moments its mission, training students and producing lavish shows featuring guests artists. Renowned troupes including Baryshnikov & Co., Martha Graham Dance Company, and Pilobolus have all contributed to Ballet Hawaii performances.
