What You'll Get
Fly fishing is not to be confused with fishing while flying, a complex undertaking that involves either acquiring a magic carpet or being carried in the mouth of a pelican. Enjoy sport without support with today's Groupon: for $30, you get a 2.5-hour Intro to Fly Fishing class at Gray Wolf Fly Shop (a $65 value). Choose from the following dates: July 12, July 19, July 26, August 2, August 9, and August 16. Classes run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Recently featured in the Shreveport Times, Gray Wolf Fly Shop casts a net of wisdom over fishermen young and old while providing instruction on the sport’s finer points, such as tying a fly, casting a rod, and building a rod. Listen as owner, operator, and part-time gray wolf Howard Malpass covers topics including selecting knots, flies, and equipment; developing a casting technique; and pairing fishing waders with a fitted tuxedo. Malpass brings a wealth of experience as a fly-fishing instructor at a nearby community college and membership chairman of the Federation of Fly Fishers. Students will also receive an earful about fly-fishing strategies and conservation techniques, enabling them to successfully hook piscine prey without incurring Mother Nature’s wrath in the form of a targeted micro-hailstorm.

About Gray Wolf Fly Shop
Howard Malpass enjoys sharing the sport of fly fishing with others, whether teaching a course on the subject at Bossier Parish Community College or showing a child how to tie their first fly. At his shop, Gray Wolf Fly Shop, he draws on this passion for teaching during three-hour introductory courses that include hands-on casting practice and basic tips on how to use flies to attract fish rather than attempt to prove spontaneous generation. His expertise also helps him match patrons with Wapsi fly-tying products, sturdy casting rods, and all-terrain gear, such as durable Korkers fishing boots.
