It's not uncommon for a resident to only explore a city's iconic sights when guests come to town or when practicing hypnosis in a mirror leads to amnesia. Commit a local landmark to memory with today's Groupon: for $9, you get tickets for two to a one-hour behind-the-scenes tour of Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros (up to an $18 value). Children age 2 and younger do not need a ticket, but this Groupon may be used for kids' tickets for ages 3 to 14 ($5 each) or adults. Today’s Groupon is not valid for early bird tours or on holidays.
Baseball and railroading history come to life at the Houston Astros’ tours of Minute Maid Park, which give fans a behind-the scene look at the stadium and the mechanical beasts that inspired it. Tour-goers stroll approximately one mile over the course of an hour, gasping as the park’s vintage locomotive zooms around 800 feet of track in left field. Instead of starting fires by holding a magnifying glass to still photos of the stadium, Astros fans can experience its red bricks, natural grass, and 242-foot retractable roof up close, viewing the field from the upper deck and stopping at Union Station, press and broadcasting booths, luxury suites, and the Astros dugout. Accessible to strollers and wheelchairs, the tour route’s terrain includes stairs, ramps, and jack-in-the-box hoists. As their owners hike through the stadium, cars may take a breather, parking for free in the Diamond Lot off Texas Avenue.
Tours are held at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., or 2 p.m. Monday–Saturday. The 2 p.m. tours are not available during Saturday home games, including those on August 6, August 20, September 3, and September 24.
