Quality photos leave the subjects looking their best, unlike mouth-staining popsicles and confrontational Christmas-shopping tussles. Learn this all-important craft with today's Groupon: for $39, you get a four-hour photography class from Ivy Studios Photography in Gilbert (a $265 value).
Beginners and experienced shutter-snappers alike can enhance shot composure and editing skills with photography classes taught by Ivy Studio’s dynamic duo. Part husband and wife, part photographic super-group, Shelly and Brandon Ivy lead four-hour beginner and intermediate classes. Recommended for new photographers, the beginner class is split into two parts; the first part teaching hands-on lighting and composition techniques, while the second part shares basic digital-editing tricks to add wow to shots and to crop out shot-marring UFOs.
The intermediate class is fast paced and similarly split, with one half of the class dedicated to more advanced composition, while the second half introduces textures, layering, and more advanced components of Photoshop software, such as removing the eyes from a portrait to create peepholes. Aperture-adjusting apprentices should bring a note pad and camera (if owned) to the classes; students in the intermediate class may also choose to bring a laptop.
After the class, the instructors will be on-hand to answer any questions on backgrounds, adding creativity, and how the person in the Hubble Telescope is fed. In addition to guiding fledgling photographers through mires of art and technology, Shelly and Brandon are portrait- and wedding-photographers extraordinaire, named Bride's Choice by WeddingWire two years in a row.
Workshops will be held on 3/30, 4/9, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27 and 5/11. The full schedule, including times and locations, is available on the website.

Ivy Studios Photography
Shelly Ivy's parents probably figured they were indulging a passing phase when they bought their 8-year-old daughter a blue camera with a flash bulb. As it turns out, that gift steered Shelly toward a career in photography that fully manifested when she opened Ivy Studios Photography with her husband Brandon. The duo specializes in wedding and portrait photography, and their work regularly graces Wedding Wire's Bride's Choice awards. Sharing a fondness for rock 'n' roll, they bring an enthusiastic energy to their clients' photo shoots, which commemorate occasions ranging from happy nuptials and momentous graduations to the fire walk that closes out every family reunion. When they're not focusing lenses on brides or setting up surveillance on ring bearers, the pair stages introductory and advanced photography classes that help students fluently maneuver around their digital cameras.
