I do sincerely hope your business picks up. The food and service were excellent. I would suggest that you offer some French wines that are more affordable to the average diner. Although there were some affordable California wines on the menue, I can drink California wines in any restaurant. Very few restaurants offer French wines so I would prefer a French wine in a French restaurant but yours were too pricey.

We were a little skeptical after reading some negative reviews on yelp. However, we had a nice experience. The waiter explained the groupon deal to us and made it clear that some of the dishes on the menu had an extra charge. The meal was very good. The soup (some have complained that it was too watery) although not really creamy was still good. We ordered the filet mignon w/ brie and the nightly special of osso bucco ($8 extra) and it was very good. The dessert was a chocolate mousse cake which was also delicious. The waiters were courteous and helpful and we enjoyed the live piano background. Yes, as some reviewers commented the decor may be a bit outdated, but we think it added the charm! We would recommend purchasing the groupon for this restaurant.

What You'll Get

Mispronouncing a French menu item is one of the deadliest mistakes an American can make in Paris, second only to discussing finances or failing to salute the queen. Pronounce unapologetically on your home turf with today’s Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of fine French cuisine at La Rive Gauche in Palos Verdes Estates. Today's deal is valid only during dinner hours.

At La Rive Gauche, fans of French fare can indulge in fine meats and seafood, meticulously prepared and bathed in traditional sauces. Hors d'oeuvres, such as the pate de champagne––a venison pate served with condiments and toast ($8)––or the bisque du homard––a lobster bisque with brandy ($8)––begin meals with a smooth sojourn across the Parisian palate. Dinner diners tired of American meals centered on apple pie and bald-eagle steaks will enjoy La Rive Gauche’s inspired entrees, all of which come accented by complimentary soup and salad. Tipple taste buds with boneless duck in a Grand Marnier sauce ($27), sink seafaring fangs into sautéed swordfish with garlic, mushrooms, and basil ($28), or stick to a New Year's diet featuring all things flightless with a fillet of ostrich flambéed with port wine and brandied cherries ($27).

Aside from its fetching French continental cuisine, La Rive Gauche also boasts a wine list of more than 1,100 vintages, as well as a dining room romantically garnished with a fireplace, candles, elegant pink linen tablecloths, and fresh flowers on every table. Surround yourself in classic French cuisine, which is surrounded by a familial staff, which is surrounded by an authentic atmosphere, which is surrounded by walls.

About La Rive Gauche

La Rive Gauche takes its name from the French word for the Seine River’s left bank, a source of inspiration for the likes of Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso. The restaurant’s menu embraces the spirit of this iconic riverside area, spotlighting the rich flavors of gourmet French cuisine.

The Zagat-rated venue serves lobster bisque, venison loin drenched in raspberry sauce, sautéed swordfish, and other French favorites. As with any French restaurants, dessert is a must, with decadent delights such as crêpes suzette and chocolate soufflés.
