The Mediterranean Sea shaped some of the world's most ancient civilizations, which gathered by its shores to dive for the delicious falafel, kibbi, and samke harra growing beneath its crystal waves. Transport to this legendary culinary coast with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of Lebanese fare and drinks at Mezza Restaurant & Lounge.
Mezza Restaurant offers diners the rich savors of the land of cedars, in addition to the luscious lubrication of a full bar. The menu allows diners to indulge their inner jackals with hearty mashawi from the grill, such as the blackened lamb chops, featuring eight mouthwatering protein patties sautéed and charred with blackened seasoning and then served with soup or salad and a side of rice or seasoned potatoes ($22). Kibbi be sehneye, pockets of meat stuffed with pine nuts, onion, and minced beef ($18), gets baked until turning crackly on the outside and succulent soft on the inside, just like a knight in shining wrapping paper. Entrees are served with complimentary traditional Lebanese coffee or tea. Starters include the m'saka, an eggplant dish topped with onions, tomatoes, garlic, and simmered in tomato sauce ($6), as well as savory warak anab, featuring grape leaves wrapped around rice and mint ($6). Each Mezza platter, such as the vegetarian with fattoush, hummus, warak anab, fatayer, and falafel ($32), allows groups of two to twelve diners, or one three-headed guard dog, to share their delicious comestibles.
- this is a great new addition to the downtown restaurant scene. This authentic Lebanese cuisine is something new that even hesitant eaters can enjoy and the menu is reasonably healthy (sans the french fries in the wrap) and has options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. – Don Burtless, Buffalo Eats
- This an amazing looking place with fine freindly [sic] service, followed by Really Great food! – Victor Philippa, Urbanspoon
Mezza Restaurant & Lounge
At Mezza Restaurant & Lounge, owners Johnny and P.J. draw from their experience working at the family restaurant⎯Pete's Greek Isles in Boulevard Mall⎯to turn Mediterranean cuisine into a luxurious nightlife feast. Live flamenco and Middle Eastern music sets the mood for Lebanese tapas such as tabouleh salad, hummus topped with sautéed pine nuts, and pastries stuffed with minced beef. After a feast of flatbread pizza, char-grilled steak kebab, or tender, marinated souvlaki, guests can head out to the hookah patio and share a bubbling water-pipe. Servers replace coals, fill visitors in on the rich tradition and history of the hookah, or make suggestions about flavors, which include spearmint, honeydew, strawberry, and Xtreme mesquite barbecue.
