What You'll Get
The Mediterranean Sea shaped some of the world's most ancient civilizations, who gathered by its shores to dive for the delicious hummus, tabbouleh, and lamb shank growing beneath its crystal waves. Transport to this legendary culinary coast with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of pan-Mediterranean cuisine and drinks at Mezzé on Lakeshore Avenue in Oakland. Mezzé grills and sautés pan-Mediterranean delicacies made from fresh ingredients that evolve with the seasons. The multifarious menu includes pizza, Moroccan lamb-shank tagine, house-made gnocchi with pulled duck confit, coriander-crusted ahi tuna, gourmet hamburgers, wood-oven-roasted chicken, bouillabaisse, and butternut squash risotto. Mezzé strives to use local, sustainable, and organic products whenever possible, to the delight of diners and chagrin of disposable carrot importers. Though not included in this Groupon, wine enthusiasts enjoy regular wine tastings, and international enthusiasts sample worldly cuisine at special country-focused dinners in the warmly hued interior.
- Upon entering this 75-seat restaurant, diners are greeted by the faint aroma of garlic, onions and roasting meat, wide-open smiles from the staff and the electric buzz of patrons catching up. – Michael Bauer, The San Francisco Chronicle
- The food was outstanding and everyone was pleased with what they ordered. I also want to note that the bartender made my top-shelf paloma the best I have ever had. – OpenTable reviewer who dined on 11/19/2010

The chefs at Mezzé’s careful use of bold spices and traditional recipes from across the Mediterranean earned their fragrantly seasoned cuisine a rating of "Very Good to Excellent" from Zagat. In addition to sourcing local, organic, and sustainably farmed ingredients whenever possible, they also keep their flavors close to home by stuffing spicy merguez, smoking Angus rib eyes, and pickling vegetables in house. Throughout their meal, diners can gaze directly into the open kitchen and watch the chefs at work, busily arranging the lamb-shank tagine or debating the relative merits of eating soup with a spoon versus a crazy straw.
