RedGate Golf Course
When he designed and built RedGate Golf Course in 1974, architect Therman Donovan cleverly incorporated the land's natural rippling landscape into the course's layout. Today, this Billy Casper property continues to look—and play—like a traditional parkland course. Namely, it's defined by well-manicured fairways, lofty elevation changes, and an abundance of wildlife, all free from the typical intrusions of housing developments and space-shuttle landing pads.
Water is prominent at RedGate, too—in fact, it comes into play on nine different holes. It's especially present on the par-four third hole, where balls have to carry over a hazard before climbing an uphill green. Such challenges crop up frequently throughout rounds here, and golfers can celebrate their accomplishments around drinks and food at the RedGate Cafe. They can also prepare for their next round by taking lessons with one of the courses's PGA professionals, or by hitting the driving range to practice their pre-hole chatter.
