What You'll Get
Sushi, like the archival footage of Mark McGwire's birth, is best known for its raw quality. Get attached to your food with today’s Groupon: for $12, you get $25 worth of authentic Japanese sushi, drinks, and more at Rise Sushi Lounge.
Chef and owner Tony Wang funnels his training under a Japanese sushi artist into menus loaded with sushi and Asian-influenced entrees. Diners can nosh on selections from a multitude of bite-size nigiri morsels, which top dense pillows of rice with dreamy sea fruits such as fresh salmon, eel, and squid ($6.50 each). Spicy tuna, crab, and avocado belt out a tasty tune in the Rise Superstar roll ($14.50), inspiring teeth to tap-dance through puddles of Chef Tong's special sauce. Meanwhile, the Lava roll's three fish varieties⎯tuna, salmon, and snapper⎯ join forces with scallions and swiss cheese before charging into the oven and demanding a tan ($11.50). Like reasons to wear a clown suit to work, entrees also exist, and include the Hong Kong–style sea bass ($29) as well as teriyaki beef with seasonal vegetables ($19).
As visitors' palates wrap around bites of flavor-packed fare, their eyes can absorb the golden glow of the lantern-like lights illuminating the eatery's clean, modern décor. Seats surround 360 degrees of a stone-topped sushi counter, inviting guests to watch as culinary craftsmen prepare plate toppers and prove to be three dimensional without special glasses. Backlit curtains, exposed-brick walls, and elegant lighting further cloak the atmosphere in luxury.
