For Beata Kacy, life is art. After all, she has spent her own exploring new mediums, discovering how far self expression can take her. Her experience includes everything from digital design and photography to jewelry making. Along with her parents and partner, who themselves practice everything from soap making to knitting, she runs Soigne, an art studio with classes and workshops.

Students can pick a class from the studio's flexible schedule to learn one of Beata's specialties, or explore other arenas such as enameling, leather work, or forged jewelry. After making a spiraled copper necklace or chunky scarf, students can wear their creations home.

Well organized, fun. Good for eager teenagers too.

I took a 3 hour class at Octopus Studios where we learned how to make soap and bath fizzies. Beata is great as the instructor and she and explains the process and ingredients clearly and helps guide you along. As part of the soap making process, she lets you choose your essential oils and herbs (one in each layer of the two batches of soap). I ended up taking 4 soaps home to cure and 4 bath fizzles to use right away. She also sends a copy of the instructions for the soap via Dropbox, so you can make it at home, and she even sells some of the ingredients needed to make soap. I highly recommend the class as it was both informative and fun.
