What You'll Get

Brunch—like twilight, sporks, skorts, friends with benefits, and so many other things that make life worth living—is not quite one thing and not quite another. Celebrate everyone's favorite hybrid mealtime with today’s deal: for $10, you get $20 worth of innovative breakfast, brunch, or lunch eats at Square Café.

Square Café's early day menu is stacked with tasty bites for famished carnivores and their vegan or vegetarian counterparts. Start a day of spelunking in the neighborhood caves with a hearty plate of the shrimp creole served over grits ($11) or the vegetarian leek-and-goat-cheese scramble, a succulent storm of braised leek, goat cheese, and tousled eggs ($9). Lunch fare is served all day at the eatery, and the selection of crisp salads ($9+) and hearty handhelds, such as the fresh vegetable wrap ($9) and the slow-roasted pork sandwich, layered with crisp leeks and brushed with jalapeño ketchup ($9), hold the promise of filling empty bellies' top hats. There's also a menu made for kids—as opposed to from them—and a list of beverages that provides the liquid half of a dynamic dining duo.

Square Café boasts a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a jovial waitstaff to enhance its distinctive 1950s vibe. A rotating selection of colorful, locally produced modern art adorns the walls, and the eatery's indoor and outdoor seating makes it an ideal destination for nature lovers and retired pet detectives.

The Post-Gazette featured Square Café. and eight TripAdvisors give it an average of four owl eyes:

  • If in Pittsburgh, don't miss this breakfast - lunch experience. Great food, service, and menu. – LetMeTellU, TripAdvisors, 11/23/2008

About Square Café

When guests walk into the bright blue confines of Square Café, they find owner Sherree Goldstein and her friendly crew serving up smiles and steaming cups of custom-blended Kiva Han coffee. Preparing eclectic breakfast and lunch dishes, chefs crack shells for three-egg omelets, green eggs and ham with homemade pesto, and form their own housemade veggie burgers. Attentive servers endlessly refill freshly brewed ice tea and help health-savvy diners find the best menu options. Inside, colorful local artwork fuels discussions about which colors deserve to be primary, and on the sidewalk patio, diners can scan the street for signs of Square Café's vegetable-oil-powered Mercedes.

Gayot proclaimed Square Café a "vibrant eatery," describing the "generously portioned, cooked-to-order breakfast and lunch items on huge square plates." In addition to the well-crafted eats, the staff's energy and enthusiasm keep the café's sizeable crowd of regulars coming back—the manager, Kevin, even sports a Square Café tattoo as evidence.
