It’s a beautiful house filled with original furniture, rugs, china, etc,—and of course history! Our tour guide Janelle has my highest recommendation. She provided much information in a knowledgeable and engaging way, answered our questions, and pointed out details in various rooms. Great!!! The gift shop is small but filled with a surprising variety of items. Do visit this little-known DC gem!

President Wilson is probably one of the least known American Presidents. By touring the house, I learned about the contributions he made as President and his personal life. His house is decorated with items he received as President and personal items of his own. It is sparsely furnished - no ornate furniture or fixtures. It is a down to earth house. You will get to view his bedroom that he spent his last years of life in connected to his nurse's bedroom. The house is very difficult to find and parking is next to nil. If you do find parking, it's limited to 1 hour which isn't much time to tour the house. Luckily, I have a handicap plaque. To me, it's worth visiting but If you are not into American Presidents, then don't bother. Spend the time into on another site.

Return visit after many years. Last visit was in summer; this visit was before Christmas when the house was nicely decorated. Docents were welcoming, knowledgeable, and patiently answered all of our questions.

This is a great time capsule of American history. There is a wonderful short film about Wilson to start before touring his beautiful home that exists as it was during his time living in the house. Thousands of original artifacts in a grand beautiful home. The tour guide was friendly and extremely knowledgeable as well. Superb way to spend a couple of hours in DC!!

About The President Woodrow Wilson House

The President Woodrow Wilson House opens a window onto the private life of the nation's 28th president. This home on S Street is where the president settled down after leading the nation through World War I, creating the League of Nations, and winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Architect Waddy Butler Wood designed the home and gardens in the Georgian Revival style with a marble entryway and grand staircase, book-lined study, and a solarium overlooking the garden. Preserved the way it looked on the year of his death, President Wilson's home contains remarkable memorabilia from his life, including a Steinway piano from the White House and a mosaic he received from Pope Benedict XV. The house has now been a museum for half a century and is open to the public.
