More or less average. Would go back if in the area, but would not make a special trip.

For a Japanese restaurant, portions are pretty large, and the price is reasonable. The location is convenient to Interstate Eye-5, and the place itself is modestly, but pleasantly, decorated. It's a mom-and-pop operation, and the food is quite good. Nothing spectacular, but good. There were quite a few diners there early in the evening.

What You'll Get

Since humans are mostly made of water, and fish traditionally inhabit water, fish should naturally occur in the human body. Fix this gap in nature’s logic with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of authentic Japanese cuisine at Ukiyoe. This Groupon is valid for dine-in and dinner only.

Ukiyoe's culinary crew harnesses the power of fresh seafood to create sushi and authentic Japanese dishes, which share the menu with a sizeable smattering of vegetarian and vegan options. Mix and match isolated flavors of nigiri such as savory, seared white tuna ($3.25, two-piece order) and tempura asparagus ($2.95), or overwhelm your taste-lids with a hearty maki roll such as the New Zealand, which showcases imitation crab, cucumber, avocado, salmon, kiwi, and wasabi-mayo sauce ($8.95). Vegetarian combinations include the chop-Styx-friendly Mister Roboto roll featuring tempura carrots, avocado, cucumber, and a dollop of mayo ($3.95), as well as the vegan Lombard roll with shiitake mushrooms, asparagus, spicy tofu, cucumber, and vegan cream cheese ($6.95). Offering more than just sushi and occasional euphoria, Ukiyoe also cooks up combination plates of various teriyaki, tempura, katsu meats, and more paired with stir-fried veggies and rice ($10.95–$11.95).

This family-owned establishment has been rolling out elaborate pairings for the better part of two decades, drawing in hungry residents with the caring detail of a pointillistic nanny. Keep the plates flowing by dining in the spacious, open dining area. No matter where you sit, the friendly, attentive serving staff will try to meet any request, except for those beginning with "I dare you to…"

About Ukiyoe

The menu at Ukiyoe reflects 30 years of owner Jin Park refining his approach to Japanese cooking. A selection of more than 50 different sushi rolls daunts indecisive appetites and delights craftsmen looking to put wheels on an edible model car. In addition to Japanese staples such as teriyaki and tempura, the eatery serves maki sushi rolled with calamari, vegetables, and fresh salmon.
