Relaxation is one of the elemental forces that keeps human bodies alive, alongside air, water, fire, and anti-fire. Ease into your element with today's Groupon: for $12, you get a one-day pass to Wi Spa on Wilshire Boulevard (a $25 value). The pass includes parking and the use of all spas, saunas, steam rooms, towels, and lockers.
A massive Korean spa open 24 hours a day, Wi Spa soothes and nourishes drained bodies in a three-level, 48,000-square-foot facility divided into men's, women's, and coed floors. Wi Spa harkens back to the traditional Korean jimjilbang, a gender-segregated public bathhouse that also has unisex common areas. In each gender-specific area, visitors spoil themselves in baths both hot and cold and saunas both dry and steamy. Like rap battles, these floors are not for the modest, as most guests wrap themselves in provided towels, and other clothing is not permitted (guests can wear provided clothes in the coed area). The coed floor keeps stress off-balance with a multipronged assault of five sauna rooms, each dedicated to a rejected Captain Planet element: clay, jade, ice, bulgama, and salt.
At an additional cost, guests can also schedule services from nail and skincare services to massage and hair treatments. Savvy spafarers should note that the entry fee to the spa is waived with the purchase of $90 or more worth of services, and on certain days of the week, a daily special may offer complimentary admission with less expensive services.
Known as a family-friendly spot, Wi Spa transfixes tykes with a designated kids' zone featuring video games, books, and toys on the third floor jimjilbang level. A computer area with free WiFi and a comic and regular book section also keep adult brains from getting jealous of bodies receiving all the attention. And the restaurant and rooftop terrace give relaxed visitors a place to go to get away from getting away from it all.
Wi Spa offers its own deals at certain times of the week; plan ahead to make sure you're redeeming your Groupon at the most opportune time.
- Wi Spa is the Disneyland of Korean day spas. The immaculate 48,000-square-foot facility, which opened in November, has the requisite features (bathing halls, fitness center, restaurant), plus extras like a game room with Wii and PS3 consoles. – Los Angeles
- This a great spa. Great amenities, friendly staff, and an overall relaxing experience. – Shannon M., Yelp, 1/11/11
Wi Spa, a Korean spa, oozes lavishness. The staff greets guests with a shirt, key, and towel before leading them into gender-segregated floors, where clothes are forbidden when using the heated or cooled tubs, dry and steam saunas, and beauty and grooming stations for each sex. A coed floor unites the two, named the jimjilbang, which boasts a restaurant, signature saunas, and access to an open-air patio on the roof. Since the spa's open 24 hours a day, visitors can stop by one of the sleeping areas to nap, and complimentary WiFi lets guests Instagram pictures of their feet in water. Spa professionals are also on hand to provide services such as acupressure and massage, body treatments, and skincare, as well as mani-pedis and facials.
