What You'll Get
Petting zoos were created as a means of preventing animals from roaming the streets in search of salty-skinned unsupervised babies. Support our zoos and the protection of salty children with today's Groupon: for $18, you get six general-admission passes to ZOOMARS Petting Zoo in San Juan Capistrano (up to a $36 value). The passes can be used for multiple people over multiple visits.
ZOOMARS Petting Zoo houses more than 100 animals to pet, feed, and play with. Make acquaintances with ZOOMARS' herd of lanky llamas, or admire the thick, impenetrable shell of the slow-strutting tortoise. Several animals can nibble on hand-offered snacks, with many exhibiting a particular fondness for carrot sticks covered in a red-wine reduction. Equestrian enthusiasts can saddle onto a majestic horse for a peaceful pony ride ($5 for 1 lap and $8 for 2 laps, not included in this Groupon) while others can heatedly debate Hegel's logical positivism with an alpaca.
ZOOMARS is also committed to providing a clean, sanitary environment, encouraging guests to use the sinks and bacteria-blasting hand sanitizers before and after contact with the furred.
- There are more than 100 animals at Zoomars for kids to discover, including sheep, horses and even a 100-pound tortoise. – Cookie
- This is another perfect outing for the kids. Not only do they have the petting zoo but the train is a huge hit with my kids. Plus it is right by the San Juan Train Station which is another big hit. – My2Boys, lilaguide

A rustic Spanish-style farm in the heart of San Juan Capistrano that's been standing since 1890 promises more creatures than just the area's famous swallows. The picturesque estate is part of Zoomars—an all-ages petting zoo that's USDA-approved for cleanliness and the place where more than 200 animals call home. Residents range from gregarious goats, sweet sheep and potbellied pigs to an exotic emu, humpbacked zebu cows and curious llamas who mingle with visitors for pets and feeding. One of the zoo's most popular areas is the guinea-pig patch, where some of the farm's fuzziest and friendliest creatures reside. Zoomars also features family-friendly attractions ranging from a miniature train and pony rides to the Little Tikes Playground to the rustic Miner's Gulch where panning the water reveals rare treasures like fool's gold and gemstones.
Meet the Owner
Owner Carolyn Franks started down the path to animal care in college when she created her own line of dog toys. She soon moved from New Jersey to California where her passion snowballed: developing a full line of pet products, hosting an animal show for kids, running a chain of exotic bird stores, and even traveling to South America to help save endangered species. In 2005, she used her knowledge to take over the Jones Farm, expanding its pens and transforming its brand to Zoomars Petting Zoo.
Franks is joined by a well-trained staff of zookeepers and wranglers who share her vision for teaching kids about animals through hands-on interactions—and the shepherding of mammals and birds.
