Multiple Excellent Stays in Auburn Hills I stayed here in September and December 2021 due to power outages at my home. These were my first two stays at this property since it had changed over from a Hawthorn Suites to MainStay Suites. The staff were very friendly and helpful--especially Serena at the front desk! She was very helpful, professional and fun to talk to. The rooms are still identical to how they looked when the property was a Hawthorn Suites, which really is not an issue because everything is still in pretty good shape and the beds are comfortable. Just a reminder for housekeeping to follow through with cleaning everything, as there were still leftover crumbs in the kitchen. Other than that, the room was clean and spacious. My room--329--was pretty quiet despite being close to the elevator. Since it is a corner room, I had no one next to me which was nice. My other room for the SEP 2021 stay was 317, and it was also very nice. Although I am a bit bummed it is no longer a Hawthorn Suites and does not offer the same amenities, it is still a reliable and comfortable place to stay in Auburn Hills, and I know I will return someday.

Not safe Exterior doors do NOT lock and are usually propped open with a rock or rug all the time day and night which means anyone can enter the building. Entire hotel is generally dirty. Housekeeping is bad at best if you can even get it. Smells of mold and weed most days. Stained ceiling tiles in the hallways and carpet throughout is disgusting. Too many bad things to list.

Honestly Hotel is clean, great employees. Andrea, you were the best!!!! Room had icemaker and dishwasher. Website said PET FRIENDLY, they were NOT. I have an emotional support cat, who is registered. When we checked in they said it was OK, after a week it wasn't ok. We went 3 days NO hot water and partial power. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Needs lots of maintenance and removal of sketchy people Definitely was a more interesting stay at this Choice Hotel. The location was convenient for our visit to the area and it was right off the highway. We checked in later in the evening and when we pulled in we noticed some sketchy people hanging out in parking lot. There was also lots of trash and debris all over the parking lot. The sidewalks, even at the entrance, were in complete disrepair. They just had it painted yellow where it was broken. As soon as you walk in the door, the hallway had an overwhelming smell of weed. The room itself was spacious and the layout was nice. The furniture old and crappy and extremely stained. (see photo) None of the floors were vacuumed. I wouldn’t walk barefoot at all on them they were way too dirty. The walls need repair too. There was some “red stuff” (see photo) on the bathroom floor and door. At first, we thought it was blood, but it was dry. The bathroom floor also had hair on it. The furniture was all nicked, scratched and beat up. It needs to be totally replaced. We had such a late check in all I wanted to do is go to sleep. There was no breakfast in the morning. Only grab and go bags with a stale bran muffin and a water. Definitely won’t stay here again and certainly not worth our 12,000 points we spent.

Very disappointed We have stayed at this location at least four times when it was Hawthorn Suites. Each visit was considered good to very good. With that in mind we booked a 2 night stay at MainStay Suites. The location is convenient, as it is between the 2 shopping spots that my wife likes (Somerset Collection and Great Lakes Crossing). I don't know if new ownership is responsible is to blame for this disappointing visit. COVID also has to have played a part as well. We had a room on the 2nd floor. Usually we stay on the top (3rd floor). On this visit we noted several things. The website lists cookware, dishware and utensils in the room details. Having a kitchen is fine, but without utensils and cookware, we were left with just the microwave and a refrigerator. For some reason the refrigerator compressor cycled on about every 30 minutes, making a knocking sound. During the first night of our stay I thought someone was knocking at our door. However, that wasn't the only reason(s) for not getting a good night's sleep. It didn't help that the bathroom faucet dripped every 10 seconds, or that a dog on the 2nd floor incessantly barked from 5 AM. Upon checking in we noted a used towel hanging from the back of the bathroom door. Complimentary toiletries was just a small bottle of shampoo. We woke up after the first night to see a police car by the front door. I guess it was due to the car break in that was a few spots from where we had parked. The usual decent breakfast was now just grab and go bags (yogurt, orange juice, granola bar or muffin) at the front desk. We have stayed at many other hotels in the past few months, and breakfast has usually been from the full range, and just what we ordered the night before. As for general housekeeping, the stairways and hallways were dirty on the first day, not so much on the second. The trash cans by the elevator were always full to overflowing, with bags on the floor. With respect to checking in and out, it was excellent. The person handling those responsibilities was wonderful.
