Charles Inn is a Charming Classic! We Loved this place! It is decorated from the 60s, I think. Or 50s? Anyway, classic charm, with many original furnishings still shining in this old hotel. You don’t get to see many like this any more. We loved it! Our beds were comfy, our room was small but clean and sweet. Perfect location, right in the center of downtown. Sandy, front desk lady, was great to work with us, being flexible as our itinerary kept changing due to Corona … dang corona… Our Late check in was easy. AVOID Evanroods, the restaurant right across the street. Because we arrived at Hotel late, after 7pm, tired and hungry- we went there for dinner. Service was terrible, even tho they weren’t very busy. Food was disappointing. (They assured us their Haddock w Crab and Beur Blanc, would be moist And flavorful- no. It was dry and tasteless) This place might be OK for a beer, but dont stay for dinner!). There are better places nearby! Overall, this Hotel is a charmer. And a great location w a reasonable price tag. (Cute coffee shop adjacent, but we departed at 645am and it wasn’t open]

I was trapped in the entryway and assaulted by someone who claimed to be the owner's son. Horrifying experience. I left my mittens in the cafe within the hotel. Called and was told they would be waiting for me at the hotel desk. I arrived at 6:30pm on a Saturday as 4 men were exiting the inn. I asked one of them if they had seen the desk clerk because I was trying to pick up my mittens. As I went to pass, one of the guys grabbed me, I was startled and warned him not to touch me. Another much larger man came into the entryway and I was trapped. The smaller one who had grabbed me claimed to be the owner's son. I asked him if he could just get my gloves as I was leaving town. He told me to "Get the f**k out. Now" Then both of them started screaming. They were hysterical and irrational. I said I was going to call the police. His companion then told me he was going to take my crutches and beat me with them. Then he called me a c*nt*. He followed up by saying he hoped I got run over by a car. Additionally, they were all unmasked and screaming in my face (I was masked). I am a 56 year old, 5'2" disabled woman who was merely trying to pick up my gloves. This place is an absolute nightmare. If these guys were merely guests, run. If one of them is actually the owners' son, run faster. These people have no business being in the hospitality industry if they let their son and his friends behave this way towards visitors to the city. I am absolutely disgusted.

In need of a lot of TLC The Inn is located in the center of Bangor, but there is not much there and late Sunday night, almost nothing. It is located on a short single lane, one-way street with no close-by place to park and unload luggage. The Inn provides no parking, they note that there is free overnight parking, but that is true of all Bangor streets. The lock box at the front door worked and the necessary keys were in it. The building was built in 1873. We estimated that the most recent update was in the 1960’s. Everything is old, tired and in need of a lot of TLC.

BEWARE!!! I stayed at this hotel for almost 9 months while on a travel nurse assignment. Recently a delivery from Bath&Body Works sent $100 worth of candles there by accident…..”Sandy” acknowledged they were indeed received there and proceeded to make a joke about me having “gifted” them to her which I certainly had not . And… also that she had shipped them back to me at my home address on or around June 8th. After not receiving them a few weeks ago, and asking for some tracking info she became irate and refused to give me any info and so here it is August 10th and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEM. So BEWARE ! …if you leave anything there or accidentally have something sent there you will never receive it back. Not a real professional way to promote public relations of your business or take care of the people who have chosen to spend their hard earned dollars with you for a short stay or extended stay. I also reached out to Alan Hewey the owner of the property and he also has not responded. Guess he’s okay to turn a blind eye to his guest being ripped off. So….can’t say you weren’t warned.

Good and bad Just spent 2 nights. The price is right and the location great, but… the bed was terrible mattress so hard. Our shower curtain had lots of mildew! And no hot water in the sink. Otherwise, the rest of the room pretty clean. The person who checked us in was wonderful and helpful. If you go, have a meal at the Irish pub across the street!
