Unscheduled stop over Storm Bram caught us out and we had an unscheduled extra night in Belfast. The Aer Lingus staff sorted a taxi and luckily for us, a stay in the Clayton. We were informed at check in that restaurant would be closing soon so went through to order. Having snacked for hours at the airport I was craving "proper" food. The menu filled that request with Irish chuck steak mash and 3 veg and gravy. It was good tasty food as the steak came apart as soon as my fork went in. I was literally groaning with pleasure as I ate. Fiona the restaurant supervisor asked how our food was and on explanation of my gushing I said that it was my 60th birthday and had not expected 6 hrs at airport so this was proving to be a good end of the day and I asked for my compliments to be extended to the chef. She returned with a warm piece of apple pie/ ice cream scoop and pot of custard with a strawberry and icing sugar shaken over as it was my birthday. What a lovely thought , really appreciated. I will mention Aoife for serving us and her pretty damn fine hot choc / pumpkin spice latte making skills in take out cups, without much ado. Customer Service was exceptional, considering it was a late night finish having to cope with extra customers at the end of their shift! We appreciated them and lucked out being placed there.

Fab for Christmas Parties We booked the Titanic Suite at the Clayton Hotel for a private Christmas party in December 2025, with the room reserved from 6.30pm right through to 1am. From the very beginning, the Christmas Co-ordinator, Broinnínn, could not have been more helpful. She genuinely went above and beyond. We were keen to bring in some entertainment after dinner, and nothing was too much trouble. Whether it was cocktail making, Bingo Loco, or simply hiring space for wreath-making, Broinnínn was happy to organise it or help us set it up. She even created a seating plan and name cards for us, which was a huge help considering everyone always forgets what they ordered. All the staff on the night were friendly, professional, and really added to the experience. I received loads of great feedback from the team afterwards . Everyone said they had a brilliant evening. The room looked fantastic, was beautifully laid out and decorated, and the atmosphere made us feel very welcome. We ended up partying right through to 1am and had an incredible night overall. The only small thing to be aware of is parking if you are not staying overnight. Because our event ran from the early evening until 1am, it was a little difficult to find somewhere suitable. There is a car park very close to the hotel, and you do get a discount, but it closes at midnight. With it being the Christmas season, on-street parking was also limited when I arrived around 6.30pm. Not a major issue, but worth keeping in mind if you are planning a late finish and not staying over during Christmas season. Highly recommended.

A Stay With Some Unexpected Surprises I'll try put a bit of balance on this. The Clayton Belfast is ideally located, whether you're visiting to shop, explore the city, or attend an event. Every staff member we encountered was helpful and welcoming, which gave us a positive first impression. We knew that staying in Belfast—especially on a weekend—would be expensive, and we accepted the price when booking. At €270 / £234 for one night, we expected a certain standard from the Clayton brand. Check-in was quick and seamless thanks to the excellent staff. However, our room was a disappointment. It was noticeably small and very basic, offering no real frills. More concerning was the standard of cleanliness. While the room appeared clean at first glance, it was clear on closer inspection that it was only superficially clean. Cups and towels hadn’t been properly washed, and one of the pillowcases had what looked like makeup on the underside. As we were only staying for one night and heading out shortly after arrival, we decided not to spend time requesting changes—but the issues definitely fell short of the standard we expected. Sleep itself was fine — despite the usual Saturday-night bustle, the bed was comfortable and we left the next morning without raising any concerns. However, once we got home that afternoon, it became clear that something had been very wrong. I realised I had been bitten extensively by bedbugs (arms, armpits, back), and my partner had broken out with cold sores. It's 8 days since our stay and we both have visible evidence of both bedbug bites and cold sores. I contacted the hotel to report the issue, but unfortunately I haven’t received so much as an acknowledgement. For a hotel at this price point, that lack of response is disappointing. The Clayton isn’t a budget option, and with many alternatives nearby, I would strongly recommend considering those instead.
