Good and Ick THE GOOD AND THE ICK: GOOD--Surrounding area for walkers and runners and the two times I have stayed I experienced very friendly staff (not 5-star, but that is not what I expected/needed). Rooms are fine. First stay, repair needs and worn but ok; this stay, fresher room. ICK—The ever-present (terrible) fragrance in common areas. I'd rather no fragrance at all as with most fine hotels. What are they covering up? Soooo grateful there were NO fragrances in my room, or that'd be a deal killer.

Could be better As a diamond member I always hate delivering a mediocre review, however…First the good. Free upgrade to a suite. Staff was excellent. Nice dark bedroom. Beautiful grounds and location. Then the strange. Enormous living room oddly and sparsely furnished. Why is this microwave perched on a tiny cocktail table? Why is the coffee situation perched atop the microwave? Why is the carpet between the bathroom and bedroom sopping wet? Why is the lotion inside the shower? Why are there two long skinny balconies that you can’t sit on unless the chair is turned sideways? Then the annoying. Loudest elevator ever rumbles the room. Bedroom is small comparatively and stuffy. Dudes in next room repeatedly hammering on something metal for hours. $40 parking when 85% of guests drove there. Just include it in the room rate folks.

Hotel needs improvements Rooms need to be updated and/or at least deep cleaned. Stained carpets, food on side of night stand. Holes in bedding and fabric headboard and more. Hotel was not giving Hilton standard vibes. For $300 a night, this hotel does not meet good enough standards. Customer services was mediocre.

Dirty and Noisy Hotel Do not stay in room 1101 because it is next to the elevator and stairwell. Super noisy and people traffic through the hallway 24-7. The room is in need of immediate upgrading. Very dirty and room furnishings have mold from the moisture from the bay. Not much to brag about this property and the employees know it. Very low motivation from them. You gotta look at the leadership and know they just don’t care about customer service and clean accommodations

NEVER NEVER Stay in This Hotel!!! NEVER Returning in this hotel!!! I am a Hilton Honor's member and have stayed in this hotel few times before. I used to like this hotel as I lived in Bay Area for 20 years and used to frequent this hotel periodically. My last trip (actually last week) was a horrible experience. The rooms are tiny and not clean. The service is horrible. Several services (free ride to local short destinations, concierge services and room service) have been discontinued. The restaurant (Boathouse) is very bad and extremely expensive. I paid $22 for breakfast thinking that it is a buffet (they had buffet before) but found out that I have to order from a menu which had very limited choice. In my stay of 4 nights every morning I was told that their waffle machine is broken and not repaired!!! The shock of my stay is when I requested late check out as my wife was not feeling well and I was declined point blank after a charge of $67 for one hour extension. The front desk was not supportive. When I complained, I was accused of being rude which is shocking. Never blame a guest unnecessarily without reason. NEVER COMING BACK TO THIS HOTEL. Coincidentally, we moved from Berkeley to San Francisco Hilton at Union Square for stayed there for four night and needless to say, this was one of the best stay forever. Hilton knows how to honor their guests except the Berkeley hotel staff are rude and intimidating.
