Great place to stay! Loved this hotel. Old fashioned lift- but in a good way. Super helpful staff and a really cutely furnished, comfy, clean room. Even had a bath as well as a shower - quite unusual! Great breakfast and good view of the sea. Very reasonably priced too!

Disgusting My husband and I came for an afternoon tea, my husband had pre booked the afternoon tea asking for one normal and one vegetarian. When we arrived the waitress confirmed our booking requirements. The room where we were seated was very tired and scruffy looking. The waitress bought over our afternoon tea which consisted of egg and cheese for the vegetarian option, i would have thought seeing as we had pre booked they might have had chance to come up with some other options. We had to ask for a drink with our food as no drink was offered by the waitress. Whilst eating our food we noticed ants crawling over us and the table and chairs. We brought it to our waitresses attention who said she would inform someone at handover. If this is what is visible in public areas i dread to think what it is like behind the scenes. Think this place needs someone to investigate from health and hygiene. I also emailed the manager of this hotel to tell him what happened but over a week later i am still waiting for a response and resolution. I would definitely avoid this hotel if you are looking for something nice.

Dirty Great location but room was very dirty, mould., carpet was disgusting most had been eaten away by carpet beatles. Bathroom was terrible so dirty, the build up of lime scale and thick slim dripping from overflow was shocking, clearly not been cleaned in a very long time. Having dropped our bags and headed out for the nigh we returned early hours and slept didn't realise how bad it was until the morning, Manager was aware as we showed him, was given a reduction to our bill and a percentage off if we wanted to stay again... definitely won't be returning

Spare yourself and stay elsewhere Wow what an experience, Now I'm going to try and be as fair as possible and not get too emotional about things, if you knew me you'd know that service and standards are by words I live by, and yes I do reside in the real world. On arrival at the Old Ship it was clear that it was busy with drinkers and people having fun, the check in was seamless and welcoming, I should point out the staff were really nice and trying their best with what turned out to be very little to work with!. To say the hotel was tired would be a disservice to the word tired, the hotel was knackered worn out and ready to be euthanised. We were first placed in room 151 the room was large, the carpet was threadbare and there was an odour that we thought might have been from a dog, there was something on the carpet that shouldn't have been there, the room furniture was shabby, but not in a shabby chic way but in a seen better days way, I took a photo and returned to reception to ask for a change of room and showed them the reason why. They were happy to move us to another room but didn't seem shocked by the state of our room, we were then moved to 346 I think, and this is where the whole stay started to fall apart, the room was filthy but I mean dirty on a level Ive never seen in a hotel before, incase of any doubt I have attached photos of our room and you can judge for yourself. And water was pouring in through the wall of the bay window, the hotel appeared to have one lift that was ancient but it worked albeit very small. In the face of torrential rain and time running out to change hotels we decided to stay the one night go down for dinner and just leave leave as early as we could the next day, the restaurant was again tired worn out with damp pouring through the bay window walls and as the kitchen was closing we had to hurry placing our order to eat, the starter a prawn cocktail arrived warm and that when I decided the best thing to do is drink my way through this experience in the hope of it dulling my senses and I could forget this whole saga and my daft notion of taking beloved on a romantic weekend break we both so needed. The evening then took an unexpected turn as we were joined by a total stranger who decided to join our table drunk as a lord and talking gibberish, this was the end for me, even I have my limits we tried to leave the restaurant but to our dismay there was a lady in a wheelchair stuck in the entrance as her son argued with I assume the father, I truly thought I might have been in an episode of the Twilight Zone!. In all, the whole experience was one I'm trying to forget and one I may still need therapy for, so If you've managed to read this review thus far, I commend you and hope you'll find somewhere else to stay. I have emailed the hotel Manager as that was my first port of call before writing this review, to met with defensiveness and very little acknowledgement of the poor service we received.

Weekend away Stayed for 3 nights, the double room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the shower was fine. The hotel is old and the finish isn’t ‘high end’ but it was fine for what I wanted. The view from the room was a bit depressing- looking inwards, quite dark, lots of pigeons roosting, but I was out most of the time so it didn’t matter that much. The staff were all polite and helpful and the breakfast was good
