Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Canton Nice enough hotel. Only real issue was the room lighting, far too dim even with all of the lights on. Our room appears to have been recently refurbished, so was reasonably modern. Breakfast was the usual for this type of accommodation, namely juices, cereals, a hot selection as well as bagels and coffee, as expected.

Dependable, comfortable hotel needs some refreshing We love this hotel. We stay here once a year when my husband flies our hot air balloon in the Mississippi Championship Hot Air Balloon Fest. The bed is comfortable, the room quiet, the hotel is close to everything, the portico entry makes a great place to gather and chat with our ballooning friends. This year, however, our hotel is showing its age. We had a large room with a king-sized bed, which was comfortable as usual. The door would not lock. We reported it to the desk, left for dinner, and came back to find the door locked. But when we went in, it still would not lock. But as late as 9 p.m., a very competent young man came to fix it. He had to take something to grind it, but by about 9:30, the door was locking and we had no further problems. There is metal flashing around the window. At the bottom, one of the pieces was pulled out, exposing pointed pieces that could be dangerous. The outer sheer curtain and inner window blind were both partially unstitched and looked ugly. The refrigerator just barely cooled things. There was only one very small wastebasket. In the bathroom, the basin faucet moved round quite a bit. Our room had three parts: a foyer, a middle with with a counch (I assume it folded out into a bed) and a coffee table, and the sleeping area. The couch sagged. There was no lighting in the middle room except for an overhead light, so you couldn't sit and read. The opposite wall may have had a TV on it at one time or maybe some more storage, but there was nothing there now. The bulb on myside of the bed was burned out, but I couldn't unscrew it to take it to be replaced. Overall, the room looked tired and the low-wattage lighting made it look dingy and faded. But...the bed was very comfortable, all was extremely clean, the air conditioning worked well and did not drip condensation into the room (which was an issue in a friend's room). Our room was secure and the maid offered service each day. We find the staff friendly and helpful every year. I do hope the hotel owners will take the opportunity to refresh the hotel's furnishings and mend all the maintenance issues (I'm sure that's a constant battle). We look forward to enjoying our 2025 stay.

Wanted to go sit by the pool. Extremely dirty.

Cancelled reservation 6 days before trip Made a reservation at a Holiday Inn Express for our Spring break trip a month ago. I got a call this morning, 6 days before the our stay that they are cancelling our room because they claim the hotel has been sold out since January (even though there are still a couple rooms on their site this morning). They claim the web system shouldn’t have let us reserve the room and the new front desk person should have called 2 weeks ago but didn’t. She said they had a group that booked 65 rooms and so they were more important than our one room. I asked if there was anything she could do to help me at this point and she said no. She made it clear that she did me a favor by calling today to let us know our reservation was cancelled six days before our trip and then she hung up on me. Horrible customer service!

Good Enough I normally don't write reviews for hotels other than when they prove really good or terribly bad. However, our experience with this property was both, so it gets a "middle of the road" mark. First, the bad: musty ordor in the room led me to discover the wet carpet near the AC that grew larger as time went by. Second, my wife came out of the shower to discover the hair-dryer did not work. Third, after requesting a replacement, it did not work either! And, fourth, by the time we returned from dinner, the growing stench and flooded carpet required us to move to another room for the rest of the night--causing us to pack everything back up and transfer to the new room. Now the good: The one staff person at the desk was gracious & apologetic for the problems and offered the room transfer, which we accepted because she found one adjacent to where we were making it an easy move. Also, the bed was good, room clean, and breakfast the next morning terrific---so no more complaints. For the price of the stay, it turned out good enough.
