Friendly hotel in perfect location What a great hotel in a great location. A really lovely member of staff, Gina, is so worth a mention, what a superstar she is! On check-in she shared our excitement about the concert we were going to and gave us a big welcome. We met again at breakfast and chatted - always cheery and bright while working hard and paying attention to detail. Our rooms were great, no noise from outside, super comfy beds. Lovely bar and restaurant and bar on the first floor with views over the city. All in all, a fabulous overnight city break. Highly recommend.

Small rooms with no provision for luggage Smallish room given the this hotel like others tend to have a double and single in it. With the other furniture it leaves nowhere to put suitcases except on the floor (no luggage rack provided) and Less room for other bags. There is tea and coffee making, safe, iron and if you’re looking for the non slip mat for the bath (shower is over it) try looking in the bottom of the cabinet under the tv (of course). Bathroom is pokey, you open the door straight on to the toilet which seems to be a common design of the Clayton Hotels we found. There are tissues but no shower cap for the shower.

Not bad but could improve Stayed for one night ahead of an event at the Utilita Arena. Good points first - great location, staff were all warm & welcoming, nice reception area. Room on the 4th floor overlooking the railway line but had no issues with noise coming from the tracks. Room was lovely, the decor looked fairly recently refurbished as did parts of the bathroom. Ironing board & iron in the room and a good hairdryer. Bed was very comfortable and very little noise transfer from the neighbouring rooms. Breakfast was great, no complaints there. Not so good - the room was very warm as I couldn't get the air-con to work at all, there seemed to be some error code flashing on the control panel, appreciate I could have called reception but it was late, it had been a long day & I had an early start so I just left it. Not many of the TV channels worked either but again it was late so it wasn't a massive issue on this occasion. But the shower was awful, the shower had one fixed head which was so short the water just poured over the taps & trying to get under the water was seriously hindered by the taps as well, so not impressed with that. Overall though I would most likely stay again but get those showers sorted out please.

Please avoid the security man Located perfectly in city centre, staff are friendly, I had a very unusual problem at this hotel and Amy the manger was lovely and worked hard to understand and resolve the issue, she did this with patience and was non judgemental. I’ve only left one star based on my experience and not the hotel itself as it wasn’t their fault. Three of us stayed, one returned early this Saturday night and two us stayed out very late, the security guy was lounging outside, we asked a question about somewhere to finish our night. During our conversation he took my words out of context. He threatened to follow us to our room. He did follow us to the lift with his arm around me. He threatened to call the police if I didn’t leave the property, at 3 am I left and slept in some bushes as I was 50 miles from home. This young chap was aggressive, really grumpy and was steadfast without any grey area. I didn’t deserve to be thrown out and threatened with the police. I stayed under some bushes in the mud until 7 am when I was sure he had left. Regardless of our conversation he had no right to do what he did, he should have handled things differently. If you come across this chap please be aware and avoid at all costs. Again thank you Amy I felt she worked hard in a difficult situation.

Great 80th Birthday at Cardiff Clayton Hotel My Mum recently had her 80th birthday afternoon tea party at the Cardiff Clayton Hotel. Travel to the hotel was disrupted due to a concert in the city…the reception team were amazing in helping us to navigate the challenges. Roman did an amazing job of looking after my Mum and her friends. Real superstar. 10/10
