Carson City Plaza Hotel and Event Center

Simply equipped hotel Pros: - free parking - within walking distance to the Nevada Capital and city center. Cons: - breakfast: very limited choice without hot meals - poorly soundproofed; you could hear others not only speaking but also passing your front door. It is an old and simply equipped hotel.

A stone's throw from the Capital grounds ... Clean room at a good price. Unpretentious. Maybe it's seen better days, but so have we all. Service was good, breakfast was adequate. What I loved was that it's a stone's throw from the Capital ...

Decent, clean and our room had a full sized fridge w/freezer. Not all do, It served our needs for a 3 night stay. Some suites have full sized fridges which we wanted/needed the freezer space. Was like pulling teeth to get the room with the full sized but eventually the front desk allowed us to look at 2 rooms. one did and the other did not. Fairly safe location. Clean and they have a ok breakfast served free.

Not up to Par Like many other hotel guests, I ended up at the Carson City Plaza Hotel due to the extreme Winter weather storm that passed through upper Nevada. Upon entering the hotel, the entrance is very dated and the staff were overwhelmed. There are 3 separate buildings to the hotel. I was in building 2 in a corner room. The room was very dark, the carpet and couch had stains. The room was very dated And in great desperation of needing updated. The room was not cleaned too good. There was a child's hairband and dirt behind the bathroom door. The local residents were up at the crack of dawn drinking their coffee, smoking and talking right outside my room. The neighbor revived his diesel truck at 727am to warm it up. The person upstairs walked all night long. The floors are creeky. I heard everything from upstairs and outside. I even got to enjoy the Carson City fire whistle because the hotel is directly in front of the fire hall. Breakfast was lacking. Only protein was yogurt and hard boiled eggs. Then you can toast a waffle, bread or English muffin. Coffee, juice and cereal also. Just not a great spread, but enough to fill you up and send you on your way. What the hotel has going for it is it's location!

Train ride My husband and I wanted to take the train ride from Carson City to Virginia City. We aren't big gamblers so didn't want to go the casino route. We also wanted a place with free breakfast. This hotel filled the bill . It was dated, sure, but we didn't spend a lot of time there anyway. There was plenty of room, the bed was fine, and the fridge was great for beverage and restaurant leftover storage! Within walking distance to a great little brewery, The Fox Brew Pub. The breakfast was a little odd, never seen hard-boiled eggs for breakfast before? But there were English muffins and waffles for my husband, and yogurt and cereal for me...and coffee! Staff was friendly and responsive. (Plumbing was part of the dated, easily overwhelmed systems, but the AC kept the room quite chill! Overall, I'd say for a Saturday -Monday stay, during the summer, we had a great stay.
