Just be aware—lots of work going on, noise, some unfinished things in the rooms— in particular…..no chairs to sit in in the room, no hair dryer, sink/vanity is now out in the bedroom area, no hot breakfast items until they get inspected.

Don’t stay here WiFi worthlessly slow and completely unsecured. Front desk clerk not helpful at all, had to keep calling for more information, she even sent us to the wrong door to park to get to our room! The room seems clean, but no outlets close to the bed to plug in cell phones or anything. Old window air conditioner, no wall thermostat.

Nothing Fancy. Excellent Staff. Affordable. Good base camp for exploring North Georgia and Cherokee, NC area. We stayed here a year ago and had a much better room than this trip. Both trips were for the 4of July long weekend. Our room was not clean. I literally had to use my Lysol travel wipes to clean the toilet before letting my grandkids use it. The shower walls had a pretty significant amount of mildew on the wall. There was a breakfast plate with syrup sitting on top of the lamp on the table. We had no bath towels in our room upon arrival so we had to go back downstairs to get some. The ceiling had water damage. So the good things were. The staff were super nice. The breakfast was sufficient. The indoor pool spotless. The room had no odor and was a good size. Fridge was cold. Water pressure good. Beds soft and comfy. And our smoke detector was missing. The only reason I didn’t complain is when we travel we use a room primarily as a base camp to rest at night between adventures. And the staff really was super nice.

Do NOT stay here until ALL renovations are completed! Had to change rooms; first one had a strong mildew smell. Second room we had to ask for new sheets because there were black dog hairs on sheets, room had bugs on curtain, Had to ask for a sheet to put on couch because the stains were gross. Couldn’t stand looking at them or even sit on the couch. They gave us 2 towels for 4 nights. Asked for more towels and got ones with stains. Staff said they couldn’t keep up with washing the towels. The fire alarm in our room was in a drawer. The fire alarm in hall way kept beeping. Unless this hotel gets a full renovation; in my opinion do not stay here. Quality Inn is lacking Quality,

Pros and cons We have been staying at this hotel at least once a year for many years. It used to be a Holiday Inn and it was perfect. The owners did not want to pay the franchise expenses anymore and it became the Gateway Inn. It was still great for a couple of years and then started to go downhill and we didn’t stay for a couple of years. Then Quality Inn took over and we stayed last year and it was great! The person at the front desk was very friendly and said they were going to make it even better with upcoming renovations. We pulled in this year and saw the new paint job and had great expectations. It was soon disappointing. We came a little early to see if a room was ready and the person at the front desk was rude and said we were early and check in wasn’t until 4. I was ok with that because I knew I was early but the room was ready and they could check us in. One of our key cards would not work and we took it back. They redid it and it still did not work. The keys looked really well used. The room smelled like dog but my husband said it was the paint smell. The beds were sunk in the middle, everything was really worn looking and there were toe nail clippings on the carpet. The shower is the highlight of the room with great water pressure but had to turn it all the way up and still wasn’t really hot. We like to stay here because the location is perfect for us with the hikes we like to do and the price is very affordable. Unless there are significant changes we will be looking for another location for our next trip.
