A Good Hotel A friend and I stayed in this hotel two nights as we visited two amusement parks in the area. The hotel was in pretty good condition. The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The employees were very nice. The one odd thing is that the elevator button on the third floor was broken. So guests who were assigned a room on the third floor could use the elevator to get there but had to use the stairs to go downstairs. The front desk manager did let us know that when we checked in. Outside this, everything else was good.

TRAINS!!! Be aware of train track and nighttime whistle blowing trains! Stayed here 2 nights in conjunction with a Kings Dominion trip. Checked in after dark and didn’t notice train tracks behind - even got upgraded to a “suite” room 222. Room was fine. Middle of the night - VERY LOUD TRAIN WHISTLE followed by extremely long clicky clack train - thankfully able to fall asleep. Predawn ANOTHER long train - no whistle. And then we saw a little card that said trains sometimes blow whistle and here’s a pair of ear plugs (but no ear plugs). Second night only one overnight train - no whistle. I think during our 2 night stay we saw a total of 5 trains - like right outside the window 50 feet away. If I’d known about train tracks & overnight trains probably wouldn’t have booked here. Other adjacent hotels - Best Western & La Quinta also back to these same train tracks.

STAY AWAY!! Dirty, unsafe and not up to fire code Stay away. We checked in on Easter Sunday. Had to wait about 5 mins for the front desk agent to run some towels up to a room and cone back, not a big deal. We have 5 people in 2 rooms. Upon walking to the room, we noticed there were almonds all over the hallway that we had tonwalk over. Ok, they will clean it up, Not. The rooms at first looked ok. Then the more you looked around, the more you noticed the neglect. It's not just a missed dust spot or hair. Both rooms were in neglect and not safe we would soon learn. The king room we better than out double, but still neglected. The ac unit was held together with duct tape, and I had to google how to hard reset it as it was 80 degrees in there. Opened the fridge to find a half gallon of milk in there from the past guest. We sat that in the hallway fir house keeping to pick up. It sat in the hall for 2 days before it disappeared. Our double room was horrible. Both rooms tv stand and dresser were in disrepair. Our ac was missing the shield and deflection vents to prevent someone from touching the heating element. Needed a good vacuume and knew that wasn't going to happen since they don't provide any housekeeping for 3 night stays. We had a pair of socks and t shirt under our nightstand. The walls were dusty and cob webs. The shower curtain was half ripped and let water drip all over the floor. The best part was, NO SMOKE/CO ALARM OR PHONE. In our room. It's a federal law that there must be a smoke alarm. Ours was simply missing, wires hanging and all. Went to take the kids to the pool and we were locked out, key card wouldn't open the door. Employee came and fought with her hard ket to get it open and said that they sometimes turn off the key access, just prop a towel in the door. We didn't even get in the pool, while it was warm, the area didn't seem to inviting and dingy. Also, what if something happens and no one can get in to help? Seems like a safety issue. We came back one night with dinner and wanted to eat at the tables in the breakfast area. Front desk advised we can not use them and they are for breakfast only. I asked if they really wanted us to eat chicken, salad and pizza in our room with the kids on our bed and she said we would have to. But after seeing the cleanliness of the hotel, I see why she didn't care. The almonds were in the hallway for the entire 3 days and were getting smashed all over. Staff even walked over them to go to a room near and and yet they never cleaned them. If you happen to get a room on the 3rd floor, you have to text or call a number if you wish to use the elevator. The buttons on the 3rd floor are broken, and you can't call the elevator back up. Asked for 3 extra pillows for 5 people and towels. She came back and said the best she can do is 2 pillows. Breakfast was mediocre, day 1 had sausage patties, and breakfast potatoes for the hot food, day 2 was the same, day 3 was scrambled eggs only. Also had cereal, make your own waffle, boiled eggs, a couple yogurts. All 3 hotels in the parking lot seem to be owned by the same person. I'm sure the hotel will respond with, We are sorry to hear blah blah blah and we will address the issues, you should have brought it to our attention. When in fact I did mention ac and smoke alarm and front desk simply replied "Oh". It's not like it was a quick dirty issue. This is a lengthy time of neglect. I'm sure they only bank on the summer months with the amusement park across the street and care Lee's about upkeep. And the train is horrible. Middle of the night, lasts forever. At checkout I learned that my father had a note and ear plugs provided in his room but we didn't nit.

Choose a different place to stay While the room appeared to be ok the smell was overbearing as if they were hiding something. Telephone and tv remotes did not work. Elevator call button on our floor(3) did not work unless a text was sent to the front desk and did not work on our last day at all!! Would definitely not recommend. Do yourself a favor and stay in Ashland.
