Beautiful room in a beautiful setting I stayed at Villa Maya with a tour group- a perfect base for exploring Tikal. My room was huge and had a balcony overlooking the lake. Note that this is a true resort setting- there’s a small shop selling essentials but nothing else within walking distance. Breakfast was excellent; so was the gin and tonic I had the second night after a refreshing dip in the pool. I wish I’d been able to stay longer- we arrived at 8 PM the first night, we’re out at 5 AM the next morning for early-morning birding and left the following morning!

Relaxing Stay in Nature We had a fantastic one night stay at this property. We booked one of the cabin rooms, which are very spacious, and located directly on the lake, with a balcony looking out. The room itself was very clean, spotless, and quiet. The only thing was the mattress was a little hard, but not a huge deal. The overall property was large and beautiful. We spent most of our time sitting and having drinks by the dock, where we watched various birds, and relaxed. We also tried one of the hikes, there are two trails on the property, we did the Monkey Trail. It weaved through the jungle area, where we spotted various birds, and heard the sound of the howler monkeys nearby. We only wish that there was maybe a map or more signage to have an idea of how long the trail was. We thought it was the shorter trail, but were surprised after we had still been hiking for an hour. We had dinner at the restaurant. We both ordered two pizzas and they were delicious. It was a beautiful view watching the sunset while eating next to the lake, but bring bug spray! We were a bit attacked during the sunset hour, by those pesky bugs. We had an early flight so we departed before breakfast was opened, but we were pleasantly surprised to have a bagged breakfast ready for us at check-out before we departed. Overall, very nice stay if you are looking for a peaceful hotel in nature near Flores.

Great birding! A great place to rest a night or two on your way to (or return from) PN Tikal. The employees here are very nice including Melanie at the front and the waiters. I took a great birding walk along their "Monkey Trail" and saw three lifers: Russet-naped Wood-Rail, White-breasted Wood-Wren, and after quite a bit of effort a Ruddy Crake (although they are easy to hear). You can also easily bird from your room as the units are surrounded by trees.

Lovely premises and spacious rooms. I liked the spacious rooms and the tranquility on the resort. The staff have to work their kindness and the way to make us feel welcome. Thursday we saw a group arrive and they were offered wet towels to and a welcoming drink to freshen up. We had arrived on Wednesday and we weren’t offered anything. For me it is unacceptable and borders on discriminatory.
