Restorative festive escape My dear friend and I spent a Gals' Pal weekend at The Abbey and spa after Thanksgiving, the day of the big first snowstorm. The setting was magical! Decorations throughout were tasteful and festive; there were several winter-themed events that added to the holiday spirit. The Spa services and amenities were fantastic. Our spa treatments were so good we booked another prior to our Sunday departure. The beds and pillows were among the best I've experienced at a resort. Room service and dinner/wait staff at The Waterfront were top-notch. The resort has been well-maintained and the charm of this older resort only adds to its warm ambiance. Only wish the spa pool was warmer. But the large jacuzzi with jets and the multiple saunas were great to enjoy throughout the day as the snow fell for nearly 15 hours outside the huge floor to ceiling windows! Kudos to all the staff and management for making this resort a go-to place all year-round!

Disappointed We stayed at The Abbey Resort for three days, and unfortunately, the experience was not pleasant. Considering how much we paid, we expected a welcoming and comfortable stay, but instead it felt uncomfortable from the start. Most of the staff were not friendly or welcoming. One experience that stood out happened at the bar. We waited to be served, but the bartender never turned around or acknowledged us. After standing there for some time, we felt embarrassed and eventually walked away. We later spoke with another African American couple who shared a similar experience. In their situation, the bartender angrily slammed his hand on the bar before asking what they wanted. When the husband calmly asked if everything was okay, there was no clear explanation. During our stay, we also had issues with basic room accommodations. I called the front desk to request additional washcloths. When they were delivered, the gentleman who brought them looked extremely startled when I opened the door, as if he had seen a ghost. I then asked if the resort provided hand soap, as our room did not have any. He stated that the order had just come in and that he would return with soap. Five hours passed and no soap was delivered. I later saw him in the hallway and asked again, at which point he finally retrieved hand soap for us. Additionally, the shower water was not hot, making it very uncomfortable to shower in lukewarm to semi-cold water. The parking lot also had a strong odor of urine, which was unpleasant and unexpected for a resort of this caliber. Given that we did not see many guests or staff who looked like us, combined with the repeated negative interactions, it was difficult not to feel that race may have played a role in how we were treated. No guest should feel ignored, uncomfortable, or unwelcome—especially after paying good money for a resort stay. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet expectations.

Dirty mattresses , horrible customer service. The room we stayed was very dirty and outdated, especially the mattress. When I showed the pictures of the mattress to the manager(her name was Veronica), her first reaction was why we removed the cover. She didn’t apologized, she started arguing with me that the mattress wasn’t dirty, it looks like this from flipping. When asked to go to the room and check the other side of mattress she refused. We had a horrible experience. The place isn’t cheap, but very dirty and poor customer service. Doors lock was broken as well so you can’t open it from inside of your room. Never go there again and won’t recommend to anyone. They do not even care about the customers. Very weird place and weird people, especially customer service. The only good thing they offer is Avanti Spa but you need to pay extra for it.

Do not recommend About an hour from Milwaukee and a little more from Chicago...So, pretty much rural. The hotel is somewhat clean. Staff varies. Front desk is hit and miss with some being really helpful and kind and others clearly not interested in helping. The beds are by far the worst beds I've ever had at a hotel...So much so that it disrupted my sleep. I was at this location twice in the last two months for a training and both rooms had horrible beds. The inside of the hotel is not consistently heated including one of the conference spaces we were assigned to. Water pressure was terrible. Worst of all was the food provided. Breakfast was the exact same liquid egg block and roasted potatoes. Lunches were also mediocre at best. When they served sandwiches and I'd ask for mayo, the woman said, "No" to which I had to respond, "Could you get some?" One time I got some, the other I never did. The acoustics suck for both the guest rooms and the meeting spaces. Drunk people from weddings and kids are often running up and down the halls but it usually doesn't go on for more than 30 minutes.

Resort Fee but no resort amenities This place is old and outdated. It needs to be remodeled. They also have the audacity to charge you a daily resort fee when they have NONE of the amenities of a resort. And they still charge you extra to use the adult pool in the spa. We will never stay here again.
