Not good value I stayed at The Freeport Hotel for three nights recently. Of the four hotels I've stayed at in the Freeport area in recent years (three of which could be considered budget hotels, like The Freeport), this hotel was one that provided poor value for money spent. The bed was uncomfortably soft, the foam pillows uncomfortably high and lumpy, and the walls were thin. In addition, the complimentary breakfast was not well managed. Milk for cereal was missing one morning, yogurt another. I wound up going off-site to eat two of the three mornings.

Stay Away, not worth the price This is one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve ever seen. We checked in originally for two nights and ended up leaving by 8am on the 2nd day. The staff were lackluster, and the entire vibe was roadside motel. There seems to be a road crew using this motel as well, so lots of trucks parked here in the evening. The parking lot at night is shady and single women especially should be wary, but even as a couple we felt unsafe walking to the building among groups hanging out and not really sure what was going on there. The parking lot was being repaved during our stay, which would have been nice to know when we checked in so we could move our car then, rather than being woken up 2 hours later to move it. A member of the staff tried to access our room at around 11:30pm, which is absolutely unacceptable. The rooms look nothing like the online pictures. They are dark and smell musty, lacking basic amenities like a safe and a hair dryer. We ended up taking anything of value with us each time we left as we did not feel safe leaving it in the room. The closer you look around the room, the worse it gets in terms of dirt and grime. The towels are cheap and had holes in them, likely because there aren’t many places to hang them in the bathroom so people used the metal cleats on the walls that hold the paneling up. We couldn’t get out fast enough after one night of the two we booked. Did not stay long enough to try the free breakfast, but it looked like what you would expect, cereal and continental selection with coffee and juice.

Yuck This is not a newly renovated hotel. It was so dirty and disgusting. There was black mold on the shower curtains and the carpet was so dirty my clean socks turned BROWN a half hour after putting them on. If you google this hotel you will bring up review after review that say the same thing. Everyone, including us, gets the same form letter acknowledging it. There must only be one clean room in the entire place. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Not great Smelled like cigarettes covered in perfume in all the common areas. The room was overall clean but the walls are very thin and you can hear everything going on around you from slamming doors to a man coughing.

Read this review and DON'T STAY Stayed from Sept. 13 to Sept. 15 (two nights) and couldn't get out of there fast enough on the morning of the 15th. I ignored some of the negative reviews, the average was still 3-stars, so not a big deal for 2 nights. WRONG! "Ascend Collection" my a**, this is a MOTEL. Only "slightly" better than a dodgy Motor Lodge. I don't know how some people have given it high marks. Continue reading if you need more reasons NOT to stay here: Here goes: CONS: -Bathroom door wouldn't close due to to being off the top hinge because of rusty nails/rusty hinge -Couldn't look through the peephole as something was shoved in there like paper or a cotton ball, I tried and couldn't get it out, not that i really wanted to touch it -No smoke detector/taken down and not replaces -Old a** sprinkles that probably didn't work, looked like they were from the 70s or 80s -Keurig didn't work, it was dirty around it anyway -Fluorescent lights looked like a hospital ward -Double room was tight and basically claustrophobic (Rm. 176) - Dirty ice bucket and phone area on desk (next to keurig -Could hear every door open and close in the corridor -The entry door of Section F (where we were at the end of the complex) needed to be fixed as the key reader didn't work if it was closed all the way, preventing re-entry (I loved when that happened to me at night to have a smoke and I had to walk around to Door E at this sketchy place) -the unmaintained landscaping doesn't help the derelict vibe -Kind of sketchy, looked sketchy even in daytime Also I wouldn't be surprised if they have some nefarious business practices as they charged for the WHOLE stay like a month before. I believe in being fair, so here are the few PROs of this joint: -Prime location off of I-295 and right on Rt. 1 -Right across from the Maine Beer Company (I didn't go but supposedly it's really good, if you want to drink away your sorrows because you decided to stay at The Freeport "Hotel") -Cigarette dispensers at every entry door in the parking lot if that's your thing -Shower was actually ok, but the shower curtain should probably be replaced -Lots of TV channels
