Great hotel conveniently located Stayed at the hotel for an Aquarium themed conference/event, and had a great experience. Room was clean, had a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker, and everything was clean. Hotel has a pool, bar and restaurant. Staff was friendly, ballroom and office space was well maintained, and the event went down very smooth.

Smoking Fee Charge I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Gaithersburg from Wednesday through Thursday and had an incredibly disappointing experience. After my stay, I noticed a smoking fee of $250 charged to my credit card, with an additional pending amount of $50. As a non-smoker who always ensures cleanliness and tidiness, this charge is completely unjustified and outrageous. What made the situation even worse was the lack of communication. I was not notified of this charge at checkout or via email. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone an IHG property. In an attempt to resolve the issue, I contacted IHG Guest Relations, who advised me to speak directly with the hotel. However, when I called the hotel, I was only able to speak with the manager of housekeeping, as there was no other manager on duty. This further demonstrates the poor management and lack of accountability at this location. I am thoroughly disgusted with how this situation has been handled and am requesting a full refund. At the very least, the smoking charge and the pending incidental fee should be removed from my card. This experience has left a lasting negative impression, and I will be reconsidering my loyalty to the IHG brand in the future. Avoid this hotel if you value transparency and professionalism.

Tear Down Could Potentially Save this Property! The only way to save this hotel is to tear it down and start over. Please try your very best to avoid this property at all costs. I was stuck here as part of a soccer tournament so stayed with the team but NEVER AGAIN. Service was so bad - we arrived post 11pm and standing next to my 9 year old daughter waiting to check in for 10 min I finally asked someone behind the counter working on his computer if he could help and his immediate response was "I am very busy." Thankfully a manager came out and told him he was a moron and helped. Breakfast was disgusting. Service stunk. Room had a stain on floor when door opened that I think marked a former crime scene perhaps? AC unit worked but was so loud it was the opposite of "quiet noise." When toilet flushed it sounded like a tornado hit the room. The pool had so much chlorine in it my daughter's eyes were burning after only a 30 min swim so if you must please bring goggles!! My best moment was when I checked out - I felt so remarkably relieved, it was super satisfying!

Friendly Clean Efficient and unpretentious We had an auction certificate for a two night stay at the Holiday Inn. We used it for a wedding anniversary trip. We love to visit destinations that we have never seen before. Gaithersburg won this year. The desk agent Lynne was very charming and helpful in recommending a great restaurant, The Coastal Flats. In the morning we were treated to the fun and charming Danny (Daniele). It was fun upbeat terrific personality. She has worked for the hotel since 2001, what a great associate. I'm sure they appreciate her. She'll remind them if they don't LOL just kidding. What a great way to start the day.

2nd Stay Disappointing First I will say, I’m not quite sure how this hotel has such a high rating. It is far from fabulous. I stayed twice during Dec 2019. The first stay was decent. Really no complaints which is why I stayed again on my next trip to the area. I think my only issue was the room service. The food was not good at all. Also the chicken wings were very mushy and not crisp as stated on the menu. My second stay was a few weeks later and it was like night and day. I did an early check in and was given a room on the 8th floor. As soon as I got off the elevator, I noticed a pungent odor. I got to the room, opened the door and it smelled like a dead animal. I immediately phoned the front desk to complain and was moved to the 3rd floor in a different tower. That room was better but still had a moldy stale smell. The bedding also didn’t smell fresh. I decided to deal with it and checked out early. Based on my 2nd stay, I will not be staying at this location again.
