Do not stay at Comfort Inn Gurnee IL Toilet was stopped up in room. Went to front desk to report it and employee gave me a plunger. Excuse me I'm not an employee of the hotel. Employer said either work on it myself or deal with it. Plunger was in a bag and when opened, nasty water ran out and plunger had toilet paper stuck on it. Plunging toilet didn't fix problem. Also blankets had multiple tears in them. Breakfast room was dirty with cereal and milk on tables and floor. Basically a nasty hotel

Room for improvement We chose the hotel because all 4 of us are taller and most of the hotels around the area showed double beds or 1 King Bed. We wanted Queen beds so when we saw there were 2 rooms available with 2 Queen beds, we opted for this one. Also showed free breakfast on the website, so thought it would be good to be able to eat breakfast and head to the park. When we went down for breakfast there was eggs and sausage, waffle maker, yogurt, bananas, muffins, bagels and toast. Unfortunately, the eggs and sausage were beyond bland and the only thing to flavor them was tiny ketchup packets. I'm not much on ketchup on my sausage or my eggs, but they weren't going down without something. Maybe having some hot sauce, seasoning salt or something to add to the eggs/sausage would be really helpful. Not that we typically expect any acomodation, having something specifically marked/prepped as gluten free would be amazing. One of our two rooms didn't have a shower curtain. Not sure how you don't notice as part of the housekeeping or maintenance staff that a shower curtain is not there, I'm not sure. Bathroom is small and it was pretty obvious. All 4 of us ended up showing in the one bathroom with a shower curtain so it significantly slowed us down trying to get out to the park in the morning. We were a little later than we wanted to be but we got there. If you're a light sleeper you might struggle with the sound of the air conditioner as it's a bit loud when it kicks on. Ask for a room away from the elevator as there is a steady stream of off and on the elevator and excited kids yelling as they are waiting to go or coming from the park.

A nice hotel for a couple nights stay in the Gurnee/Chicago area The place was incredibly clean. The staff their were very friendly and answered all our questions about the area. Beds were comfortable, the pillows were too soft for my liking but that's all based on preference. They do have a breakfast, there wasn't a large selection but, it was enough to get a little bite to eat.

Great Location. Mediocre Motel Experience. Made a reservation for 3 nights which averaged out to be about $115 per night. Property was selected due to rate and location. In hindsight, I should've booked at the Wyndham or Holiday Inn. Why? The Comfort Inn needs a serious deep-cleaning (see photos). We encountered rusted hinges in the bathroom; mold on two lampshades, mold/water damage on the ceiling and filthy (complete with cobwebs) windows and curtains. Those issues are all firmly rooted in the lack of a thorough cleaning process. Most of the common areas were clean, except for the elevator floor which was littered with spilled trail mix and pieces of plastic. It stayed that way for nearly two full days. At base, travelers should expect and receive a thoroughly clean property. And, the room (even with the A/C on) was horribly humid. The humidity could be felt when handling papers and fabrics felt damp. In addition to thorough cleaning, we had nearly zero water pressure in the shower. We requested a lower floor (we were put on the top/third floor). We requested a corner room. We were placed almost in the middle of the hallway. I realize the requests are not guaranteed, but the hotel was NOT sold out. And, water pressure? It's only a three floor property. The housekeeping staff is LOUD! In the morning, we could hear the staff on their telephones and talking to each other from the other end of the hallway. There was no sleeping in, on either of our 3 days. Let's look at some of the benefits of chosing this property, shall we? Great location! It's close to dozens of restaurants and shopping. If you're looking for a Chicago fix, there is a Giordano's and a Portillos close by. We were visiting the Tempel Lipizzan farm and it was just a few miles away. Milwaukee is close by and we drove about 30 minutes to spend a day in the city. The front desk and housekeeping staff (especially first shift) were pleasant and helpful. They regularly greeted us as we came and went each day. The pool was a decent size, but when crowded with kids it was noisy and cluttered. Watch the main hallway, as water is tracked from the pool to the elevator (definitely a slip/fall hazard). Parking was easily found with a handful of handicap access spots close to the door. The beds were good and complete with clean linens (no tears or marks). The towels were good (not thread bare or too thin). The mini frig was one of the best we've ever seen (separate freezer section, removable/adjustable shelves) and it easily accommodated our left overs and soda bottles. With all this being said, I realize there are certain things out of staff/management control. And, often there simply isn't staff available/employed to do all the work necessary. However, I do expect a clean room regardless of price point. It's a basic expectation. Depending on your personal priorities and nature of your trip, this specific motel might fulfill your needs. Looking back over the entire stay, complete with pros and cons? It wasn't an awful experience, but simply acceptable. If returning to the area, I would likely book the Holiday Inn in order to be truly comfortable and get the most value-adds for my money.
