Mixed review I’ve stayed here before. Beautiful views from the rooms and the grounds are lovely. The rooms are a bit worn and need updating. Ours had a big wooden door (that kept sliding off its track) which covers the bathroom entrance. Not much privacy as it hangs there with gaps around the edges. Also disappointed that they now force you to use the valet for $35/day instead of using the guest parking lot across the street which they now call valet parking overflow. Despite this, other guests told me they parked there regardless of the rules. I would have disregarded these issues and not posted a review but for an issue I encountered. As a Diamond member, I am entitled to a 4 PM checkout when available. Using the AARP rate, one is entitled to a 2 PM checkout when available. I requested a 1 PM checkout and was told anything after noon would require a $75 fee. I read the front desk the rules and her response was basically upon availability and late checkout is not available unless you pay $75. I don’t think this is how the rule is supposed to be applied and certainly I have never encountered this kind of response in 20+ years as a Hilton customer. Available is available and unavailable is unavailable. Not a fee to make unavailable suddenly available.

DO NOT GET ROOM 534. The Hilton has bias because this is the accessible room, but the shower HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR A YEAR. DO NOT GET ROOM 534. The Hilton has bias because this is the accessible room, but the shower HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR A YEAR. The air conditioner sounds like a TRAIN IS RUNNING THROUGH THE ROOM. No one seems to care, CERTAINLY NOT SIERRA. We will not be back. We give everyone fingerpuppets, but apparently being unique is not valued here. It is very sad because the location is beautiful.

Wouldn’t go back This hotel needs major updates! Very beautiful location but strange room with loud AC. No art, but an old letter explaining why. Crowded and tiny pool. Always a wait for a table at the restaurant. Room cleaning schedule very bizarre. Once after 5 pm and the other time only after I called the front desk who insisted I didn’t want room cleaning (not what I said when I checked in). Valet which seemed mandatory was 25 a day but you could come and go as many times as you need. The neighborhood surprised me. Seems economically depressed and for the price I was quite surprised. I got free drink coupons when I checked in but the drinks were very weak.

70$ in Hidden Fees a Night, and My Bathroom Door Won't Close. When I book a hotel which charges x dollars per night, I expect to pay x dollars per night. Here, that just isn't the case. As soon as you arrive, you'll be informed of the 35$ nightly fee for the mandatory valet parking -- keep in mind that it's not as if valet service is needed to park the cars in a difficult-to-navigate lot or a remote location. You're paying the fee (plus the associated tips) for the pleasure of someone else simply nudging your car into a bog-standard parking lot AT the hotel. As you go to check out, you'll also be hit with a $39 "resort fee", whatever that means. Perhaps the $234 in resort fees we spent was supposed to be a fair price for the two complimentary bottles of water we received. If the room and services provided were fantastic, I wouldn't be as bothered. But given that our room bathroom couldn't even close, there isn't free breakfast provided, the AC was constantly malfunctioning, and the swimming pool is the size of an above-average puddle, I'm not particularly impressed. The only saving grace of the hotel is its location; the seaside view from the back is really nice, and it provides decent access to all the important sites in Hilo. But these hidden fees have got to go.

Time Machine Can’t decide to give 3 or 2 stars. Wow. So dated. I literally feel like I’m on an episode of the Flintstones where they’ve gone to Rock Vegas. The building is prime 60s construction. Valet parking only for $25 day. And the room……it looks like the Grinch stole Christmas in here. A wrinkled letter, no doubt read by the last 50 guests in this room, sits on the bureau stating that they are updating the artwork. There are literal holes in the walls where the pictures were taken away. The view looks onto the bay but also you can see the other 60s era high rises and the container shipping yard. There was a hair in the shower, ewwwwwww. Towels look clean, they gave free drink coupons. Lots of families and kids running around.
