Mango Sunsets Indeed! I stayed three nights. The steep drive up leaves this place close to the road but far enough away that you feel very isolated. And that means it's quiet too. The room was clean, the views were amazing and Marsha gave us a warm aloha when we arrived. My booking came with breakfast and though there could've been more food I was accommodated with my particular diet. Mango Sunset is on a multi-acre farm with lots of coffee and produce growing which means there's lots of birds too (plus we saw a wild pig coming up the drive one evening). Guests have access to a kitchen . A nice alternative to staying directly in Kailua-Kona

Great location and wonderful host! A BnB on an organic coffee farm... How wonderful is that! We were treated to fresh fruit and coffee every morning followed by a homemade breakfast! Even better, our host, Marsha, was a wealth of information about Hawai’i, it’s history, culture, and geology. Each morning, all of the guests (there are 4 double rooms in the BnB) ate breakfast together on the lanai overlooking the valley and the Pacific ocean beyond) and were able to exchange stories about Hawaii or things we enjoyed on the island. The location on the leeward (west) side of the island, about midway between Kohala (in the North) and Kalea (in the south) enabled us to travel easily up and down the coast exploring. The view from our room and the lanai overlooking the Pacific was amazing! While I travelled with my college-age daughter, this would also be a great place for a group of friends to stay. We had access to a washer/dryer and a kitchenette (no oven) as well as a grill, a small living room, huge lanai. Very relaxing and convenient.

Breakfast and the views are the stars of the show. This B&B is halfway up the side of a mountain, so be ready for some steep roads getting there. Follow the directions that the owners send you. The driveway is on the side of the road AWAY from the ocean, and there is another driveway right next to it. If you were to head up the wrong driveway you'd be met with a "No Trespassing" sign and have to BACK DOWN a very steep hill. It would feel like going backwards on a Ferris wheel. So pay attention to the driveways. You want the one that has the dog training business on it. As you face the two driveways, you want the one on the left. The B&B itself is in a building that's separate from the owners' house. There are five (maybe six) rooms. One has a bathroom that's down the hall, the others are all en suite. There is a kitchen with a sink, a full-size fridge, a coffee maker, an electric kettle, and dishes of various types. Guests are not allowed to cook meals in the B&B because of local regulations, but there is a barbecue that guests can use, and you can make tea and coffee, as well as storing whatever you want in the fridge/freezer. There's also a living room that's roomy and has a computer for guest use. Every room but one has a sliding door to the deck, complete with deck chairs, and there is a FABULOUS view off that deck. There is also a washer and dryer for guest use, and it costs $5 per load. The machines are a bit noisy, so be ready for that. When my friend and I stayed here, about a week ago, we were the only ones in the place, but I think that even when others are there you'd have enough room to feel like you have as much personal space as you ever have at a B&B. The down-the-hall bathroom was the one that went with our room. No one else used it, of course, since we were the only guests at that point. But if other guests were there they would easily take it for a communal bathroom, so you'd need to work that out with your fellow guests if having a completely private bathroom was important to you. You'd also need to be aware you would be showering in a bathroom that you reached by walking through common areas. If that's an issue for you, stay in one of the other rooms. The B&B is left unlocked pretty much all the time, from what I could see. Not that much of an issue for us, but you might feel differently. Our room had a lock on the door, and I suppose that the owners had a key for it, but I did not ask. The sliding door locks as well. Breakfast was different every day, and freshly prepared each day. We started with fruit and coffee while the breakfast was made, and then ate with the owners in a gazebo outside. Breakfast was very good! The owners are running a coffee farm and the B&B is a side business or a secondary business or something like that. I am not saying that they were inattentive or distant or anything like that. But if you are looking for the kind of B&B experience where you are in a room in someone's house and they are watch over you and treat you as if you were an invited guest and not a customer renting space for a few days, you need to go to a different B&B. I happen to like the Mango Sunset kind of B&B, where information is available to me, and I get a real breakfast, but then I get left alone. This is not a "dishy" B&B, but you aren't paying dishy prices for it, so don't complain. What it is is safe, adequately roomy, nicely appointed, and run by people who know how to make a real breakfast for you every morning.

Relaxing stay... on a coffee farm Staying at Mango Sunset BnB was like visiting the family farm. The view is gorgeous. Our first night there I just wanted to sit on our patio and watch the sunset. The owner, Hans, is welcoming and accommodating. He prepares and serves breakfast, including delicious fresh fruit and coffee grown right on the property! He does join you for breakfast so you have the opportunity to engage in interesting conversation. The guest has access to a family/tv room, as well as a small kitchen with fridge and microwave oven. The room are small but comfortable. We had a very relaxing, enjoyable stay.

Great View, good breakfast and relaxing We loved our stay at the Mango Sunset. We booked last minute and were glad they had a room. We had a nice queen size bed, in suite bathroom and slider that went to a patio area and the view! Unfortunately the VOG was in during our 3 night stay and we were not able to enjoy the wonderful view as much as we would have liked. Breakfast each morning started with coffee grown right on their farm along with local fruit, many of which were grown there. Then we moved out to the gazebo and had a wonderful breakfast - different each morning. It was prepared great and filled us up! The owners were very gracious hosts and had many travel books and ideas for what we could do while there. The travel time to Kona or the beach was only about 15 minutes so it was nice. There was a common kitchen with a refrigerator to store any beverages or cook a meal. Along with a grill outside. Also a common living area with a flat screen TV. We enjoyed the quiet peaceful setting and would come back again.
