Running Y Resort

Solo Roadtrip Pass Thru On a 2 week road trip I was tempted to stop in Eugene, Oregon but being that it was still daylight, I kept going to Klammath Falls as I had found this gem online while seeking out places to stay. I was skeptical of arriving so late at night, as my arrival time was 1030pm, but The front desk staff were on point when I arrived and I had zero issues. The entrance to the place was beautiful, very ranchy/rustic feel. While I didn’t go into the restaurant/bar area, it was very appealing. I don’t like staying on the first floor when I travel solo (too much binge watching of true crime shows), But I did book my room 4 hours before arrival so that is what I got. The room was very nice. My only real complaint was the shower head was either like a dagger of water into my back and was very hard to adjust to something not dagger like. Also, I was thrilled to hear what I thought was squealing kids out my window in the morning because I missed my own kids (who will be traveling the latter half of this trip with me). Turns out, there weren’t any kids it was just the sound the air conditioner makes when it turns off. Not annoying, but now I chuckle at it. I would absolutely stay here again.

Beautiful views, but poor service It's a beautiful ranch, very peaceful and the views are breathtaking. The amenities were nice too: gym, pool, bike rentals, golf course. There were a number of empty retail spaces on the property, which made the place feel a little deserted. However, the service was subpar. When we checked in, the front desk didn't even take the time to tell us about the amenities and their locations on the property, I had to figure it out on my own. The rooms were clean, but lacked attention to detail. For example, bathrooms had shampoo but no hair conditioner. The Ruddy Duck restaurant also left much to be desired. A few servers were nice and accommodating, but the majority were clueless and borderline rude. Asking them questions felt like an imposition and they couldn't accommodate basic requests, such as having no olives for a martini or not being able to put an item on the side. The food at Ruddy Duck was average, but priced as fine dining. Overall, the resort is an OK place to stay on your way to or from the Crater Lake, but it's not worth making this a destination of its own.

excellent service My massage therapist was fabulous. Her skills were excellent and she addressed all my areas of concern. She was respectful of my time there letting me receive treatment in silence. It was a much needed break from the stressors around me and I left feeling rejuvenated.

Poor Service & Deferred Maintenance Diminishes Experience Here In many ways, marketers are evil geniuses. If you call something a "timeshare property" we expect one thing, but when you call something a "resort" we expect something elevated and of high quality. A "Resort' conjures up images of gorgeous grounds, newer accommodations and remarkable service, all which justify higher prices. A timeshare property, a category pertaining to the Running Y Ranch, rightfully conjures up images of nice but older units, deferred maintenance, nice common grounds, family friendly facilities, and generally lacking and often unprofessional service. The Running Y Ranch is firmly in the second category. It works for a family, but it is not a resort. We booked online for our trip to Crater Lake nearby, so it wasn't clear from the name or the price, that Running Y was in part a Worldmark Timeshare property. Some nice things, the landscaping and setting of this property is nice. It's one of the better places to stay in Klamath Falls. We were kindly given early check in, and they did admit when they made an error. The unit was family friendly, good for work (free WiFi and a small upstairs office in the unit) three bedrooms and not unlike booking an Airbnb. Some things firmly in the time share camp: unprofessional staff. We were bullied by a staff member for a 12:30 late check out (vs. 11:00 am) that we negotiated with a colleague, because the staff member who came to the door to push us out of the unit was not aware of the earlier agreement and would not stop with an explanation. It was remarkable for the fact that its never okay to bully guests at a resort, but at a time share, that's often part of the deal. We called the on-site spa to make reservations, but they never answered and they never returned any of our messages the full three days we stayed on the property. Definitely not something that would happen at a resort spa. Calls to the front desk were routed to a central reservations platform, not on the property. They couldn't even forward to the front desk, and weren't familiar with the property (for example, they told us to "walk downstairs" for help, meanwhile our unit was a three minute car drive from the front desk.) Our only option was to call back multiple times and hope we'd get someone on site. The staff did later apologize for the confusion about the strong arm check out (which resulted in their bullying approach) and had that poor interaction not occurred, we may have had a better impression of Running Y. We did enjoy the larger facility (3 bedroom unit) although we found older appliances in the unit, mold in the washing machine, a birds nest in the exterior ducting (I actually liked hearing the nest of babies in my room, but many may not) giant mushrooms outside, not ideal on a property catering to small children or pets, the blinking exterior lights that need to be replaced, dead bugs not cleaned away, and a mouse trap under our bathroom sink. In all, there were some aspects that were clearly not at resort caliber.
