Beautiful room, scenic views, unparalleled location First, read the prior reviews about the renovated vs un-renovated rooms. They are accurate and very informative. That being said, we stayed in a renovated room of the Pines in a corner room. The view was absolutely fantastic, with wall to wall ceiling-high sliding doors/windows. You can sit out on your balcony and watch the sea lions play in the cove on the beautiful coastline. We walked all over and this was absolutely the best view in La Jolla. The hotel is walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants, right on the seawall, polite and helpful staff, and a conveniently located coffee shop in the bottom floor. The updated room was very spacious, with very thoughtful and modern amenities and renovations. I cant say enough good things - we will be back.

No.....no, no, no. Give it at least another few years for renovations to be complete NO.....wait until renovations are complete. Scary when the reception staff warn you upon check-in.... 'Our rooms are dated......from the '60's.....". I supposedly stayed in a renovated room....where instead of curtains on the french doors....the glass was spray painted. There were portable heaters, air conditioners. Microwave stacked on top of fridge. Random mis-matched furnishings. Shocking this exists in LaJolla..especially for the rates charged.

Never Will Book Again. So Dissapointed. This hotel looks nothing like the photos AND neither Expedia nor the actual hotel website say anything about a new and an old building. I spent a ridiculous amount of money on this hotel. Originally, I was going to stay with my boyfriend for 6 days, 5 nights. However, after 1 night, I went to the front desk and filed a complaint about the misleading nature of the reservation. I was informed there was nothing that could be done except comping my parking. It was also not disclosed that two wedding parties had blocked out the entire renovated portion of the hotel, therefore, not allowing room to move into a better room. Then the following morning, I checked out and switched to a better, nicer, and cheaper hotel in the area. It was not clean. Sheets were dirty, shower was clearly not scrubbed prior to our check in. There were no amenities at all. Noise level was fine-- got to hear the sea lions yap which was kind of sweet. The location is convenient but that's about it. The hotel also did not take accountability for the misleading marketing by telling me "There was no statement declaring everything was renovated." Which is valid because that's not what I said. I stated only photos of the new building were posted. It's one thing for the room to be old, but it was just unmaintained and for the money it was such a waste. I actually saved money by checking out of here and moving somewhere else. There was nothing done to remedy the situation. It was either I check out and cause stress to myself and my partner or I stay and complain the whole time.

La Jolla Gem. Well-located hotel smack-dab on the seal inhabited coves in La Jolla. You cannot find accomodations closer to the water and beach. The good part about that is location, location, location. The less good part is the, uh, aroma caused by the seals and their hygiene. You get used to it after a while but its a powerful smell. The hotel is in the process of being renovated. Our renovated room was well appointed, clean, updated, comfortable. Appreciated the mini-fridge, generous supply of towels and a front desk that was helpful, friendly and accomodating. Daily parking at $27/day with unlimited in-out capability was terrific. The unrenovated parts of the hotel seem to be a work very much in progress, and not recommended.

Excellent location Amazing location! We stayed in a pines corner suite and the view was amazing! The room was large and the bed comfy. Bathroom modern and clean! Had an issue with our fridge but they handled it immediately and with professionalism! If there’s an event on the roof, you can hear it in the room but they told us it would end at 10pm and it did promptly both nights of our stay. The noise and music didn’t bother us. Pretty great spot for a wedding so we’re happy folks could enjoy that. If you’re an early bird for sleep maybe not the room for you.
