Pleasant stay My husband and I stayed for 2 nights here. Somehow I accidentally booked the wrong date and the management was soo good to adjust the date and worked with me which I greatly appreciated it. I liked the history and nastalgia of the building. They have a nice lounge area to sit and relax with a small fireplace. They have coffee and tea always available. The restaurant on property was very good and reasonably priced. They were closed Mon.and Tues. but check as it could change. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was also much cheaper the. Other places in the area.

The worst hotel we live stayed in since 1993 Save yourself the disappointment in ruining your vacation. This place is an absolute dump. It’s stinks, there is an air deodorizer trying to mask some nasty smell and it’s everywhere. It’s disgusting, the TV is a computer monitor from the mid 90s and it’s maybe 17” big. The service is an absolute joke. They asked for no ID, no credit card only my name to confirm online booking. We aren’t fussy people, we camp in tents and I can say unequivocally this place should be condemned. In fact, I will be contacting the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce as this dump is a black eye on the stay and dissuades visitors. Never ever, ever again!!! The man at the front counter walked by us when we came in and ignored us. We had to call a number and some lady answered from god knows where and she wasn’t even on site.

Great value with old world charm. We’ve been staying at The Pines for over 25 years, in all seasons, and through 4 different owners. This is a 100+ year old hotel, and yes, there is no elevator. I’ve read some of the poor reviews here and can only say, you should have seen it in 1998, when it was The St. Moritz. The Pines has a lot of character and quirkiness, but all of the owners through the years have been good folks who have put their hearts into it and do their best. We haven’t gotten to know the new owners yet, but our stay this past winter for a few days of skiing was as comfortable and reasonably priced as ever. The Red Neck Bistro, while not open every night, has tasty barbecue and other dishes; you can dine in or order out. The walk down the hill to the main drag, where there are many more dining options, is invigorating—especially the walk back up (which we affectionately call “the slog”). If you demand luxe and have the money, there are other options. But as a family and now as seniors on a budget, we value the lower cost to higher charm ratio.

Excellent weekend escape Very nice older hotel. Excellent location, very clean and had loads of charm. The room was large with two queen beds both of which were extremely comfortable. Bathroom nice size and all features worked as requested. Would definitely stay again at this hotel in the future.

In town for the night. A very nice visit, economical and clean rooms. Main part of the city was just a few blocks away. Staff was very nice and engaging. Had a couple of glitches but staff made expedient effort to correct.
