I felt as If I'd been scammed and it leaves a sour taste I was staggered on arrival to be told there was cahrge for parking: The road side sign specifically says 'Free Customer parking'. I'd booked direct through Best Western and at no point was the charge mentioned. The receptionist/manager told me the charge was £5 but she lied because it was actually £5.99. The room was actually fine, as was the breakfast, although the ingredients were mostly of low quality. The sausage test was certainly a 'fail' I wish I'd read the reviews before booking.

No Chef, but everything worked out OK in the end. Where to start? We'd booked in along with many others from our car club that were attending a show at The Motorist 15Mins away. Originally we had booked a table for 9 of us to eat at the Hotel on the Saturday night. However it seems the chef decided to leave a few weeks ago, without a replacement being found (yet). As it turns out we managed to find a local pub (short drive away) that allowed Dogs to enter the Bar area, further review of The Thack to follow. Now we'll talk about the hotel, easy enough to find, looks a bit tired from the front. But lots of signs warning you to pay for your parking. There's a few weeds in the car park, would not hurt to kill a few weeds and get some planters made with some bedding plants in. Reception was welcoming, booking in was simple, as we had a dog with us we were on the ground floor, however although they accept dogs there is no exercising area for them, so you have to walk down the dual carriageway to the roundabout so they can do their business. The room (number 7) itself was clean, no smells, a little dated, but a huge TV that had limited channels/functions turned on (not wifi connected I think). The bathroom was modern, but the bath tap had a constant leak, shower was nice, with plenty of hot water and a goodflow rate. The room was VERY quiet, considering it overlooked a dual carriageway, double glazed , plus a 3rd pane fixed. This meant you could not open it for fresh air, but I guess it also keeps dust out. Breakfast in the morning was standard Continental option, but plentiful with staff on hand to ensure everything was topped up and tables cleaned, just missing my Sunday morning fry up. So, to sum it up, £90 for the room, £10 for the dog, £5 to park, I would have paid that. But as it happens as a gesture will, there was no charge for the dog or the parking, due to the fact they could not provide the evening meal or cooked breakfast. Would we stay again, I think we would, if and when visiting up that way. Honest review give the staff a break, obviously run on tight margins when there's no hot food on offer. They could have got another £100 out of us as a couple if we could eat and drink there.
