Pre-Christmas stay I stayed in the Mount Errigal Hotel for 1 night with my wife and daughter. We were meeting family for a pre-christmas meet-up and dinner. The staff were very nice and accommodating. They were able to seat 13 of us and the bar manager was very friendly and entertained our kids. The room was beautiful, very modern and clean. The entire hotel smelled clean throughout. I will most definitely stay here again.

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Poor Treatment of Families I stayed at the Mount Errigal Hotel with my extended family for a special getaway, booking four rooms at significant cost. Unfortunately, an incident at breakfast completely overshadowed our stay and left a very negative impression. When I arrived for breakfast with my two young children (aged 4 and 2), a supervisor named Nora challenged me in front of other guests and said my children were “not allowed” in the breakfast room because they were wearing “pyjamas”. They were simply in matching children’s leisurewear outfits. The interaction was embarrassing, unnecessary, and handled with absolutely no common sense. I asked to speak to a manager and was met by Shannon, the Reservations Manager. Instead of offering any flexibility or solutions, her response was rigid, unsympathetic, and dismissive. At no point during booking, check-in, or in any hotel information was any dress code for toddlers ever mentioned. The idea that toddlers’ clothing needs to be policed in a supposedly family-friendly hotel is absurd. Even if this is a policy (which has never been communicated), the manner in which the situation was handled — publicly and without tact — was completely inappropriate. To the hotel’s credit, the Operations Manager Chris later approached us to apologise and offered his number for a future discounted stay. While appreciated, it does not erase the impact of the initial incident or the way the situation was managed at the time. What should have been a memorable family break ended up feeling stressful and disappointing. I hope the hotel takes this seriously and provides proper staff training, because no family should be made to feel unwelcome or embarrassed over something as trivial as what a toddler is wearing to breakfast.

Totally unacceptable behaviour when 2 children aren't allowed to wear leisure wear Stayed overnight on 5th December 2025. My family and I stayed here as part of a Christmas treat after visiting nearby Oakfield Park. My son and his wife were stopped in the restaurant and basically told to leave the restaurant as the children age 2 and 4 were dressed in leisure suits that had Santa on. Restaurant staff said they were wearing pyjamas. The children were very excited about their new Santa wear and then to be told they weren't allowed breakfast. My daughter in law was in tears at being publicly embarrassed and both children were crying because they were hungry.

Bad festive experience We went to the Mount Errigal on the "Festive Experience" so disappointed! Absolutely nothing festive about it. No personalised gifts in the room on arrival. No cozy festive cinema experience. Elf was put onto a laptop in a conference room with no decorations at all. Has completely put us off ever booking again.

Disappointing Stay Comfortable hotel with basic bedrooms. Check-in was a complete disappointment & that’s putting it mildly. I was asked my name, no welcome to the Mount Errigal. I then stood for the next 10-minutes while the Receptionist pottered about on the computer, absolutely NO conversation whatsoever. No explanation as to why it was taking so long. Then she asked her colleague to come over & look at her screen. Still no conversation like I’m invisible, so I eventually ask, “is there a problem?” to which she replies “no”. 2- minutes later, I eventually get our key cards with directions to our room. I worked as a hotel receptionist for 15yrs which included training in customer service. As the first point of contact in the hotel, we knew how to meet & greet each customer & make them feel welcomed. Sadly, this trait appears to be missing in a lot of hotels in Ireland. One gets the impression when checking into a lot of hotels now, that us customers should be thankful they allow us to stay & we should be thanking them for allowing us to stay. The waiting staff in the breakfast room & bar were more friendly & helpful. On the fence about a return visit & if we do, I’ll update you.
