Our Favorite Place to Stay in London--and we have stayed in most of the 5-stars I can't even begin to list all the hotels we have stayed at in London over the course of 40 years--among them The Connaught, Claridges, The Savoy, Brown's, and many more. But The Stafford has become our home when we are in London. Not too big, not too small, a full range of services, attention to detail, the wonderful Game Bird restaurant and American Bar. We have spent many happy times there. Our favorite rooms are the Master Suites in the main hotel. We always request a step-in shower (not all of them have one) and proximity to the elevator. They are quiet and comfortable . The location of the hotel is very good--especially if you walk out the back way and exit via Green Park. A nearby restaurant that we never miss is Scott's, in Mount Street.

Expensive and just okay The service for my afternoon tea was impeccable. The staff couldn't have been more helpful.or professional. The sandwiches were amazing (particularly the egg mayo brioche roll and cheese and tomato sandwich) and the mince tart with brandy butter was inspired. The scones were small yet delightful but I thought the clotted cream being whipped detracted from the experience. It might be fancy but it didn't have the consistency or taste of a quality clotted cream. The cakes were works of art in their presentation but the taste was okay not blow away. The ambience and atmosphere of the hotel was very impressive but if I'm totally honest I would expect, and should have demanded, that when it cost £168.00, it should have been the finest afternoon tea that I have ever experienced. Unfortunately it wasn't. The Wolseley and the Library Lounge were better offerings and almost 40% less.

Give this Afternoon Tea a miss Afternoon tea is beyond a disappointment. The staff don't seem to know what they're talking about and the 'festive' food is terrible. I've been to many afternoon teas and this has by far been the worst. The sandwiches were good, as were the scones.. but the 'festive' cakes were awful.
