Been coming here for 8 years and it has so downhill. Checked in all good, went to the bar and there was no tonic, only diet, no Southern Comfort. My Dad managed to get 1 bottle of Doombar and then they had no more. Apparently it had busy the night before. We had booked dinner for 10 of us. I had salt and pepper squid which was lovely. 5 others had the prawn cocktail, they were not prawns, they were shrimps and everyone who had it said the "prawns" were chewy and the sauce bland. I then wanted to order the fish and chips as that was the only ting I fancied on the menu, the menu was dire, the choice was awful. Pub grub in a hotel! They had no fish and chips. I opted for the Aberdeen Angus burger. When it came my fries were cold, they changed them, no apology nothing when I mentioned they were cold. The burger was awful! I ate half and that's only because I was so hungry. It was dry, bland and I cannot believe it was Aberdeen Angus meat! My nephew also had the burger and had one mouthful and couldn't eat anymore because of how awful it was. My mother-in-law had salmon which she said was nice but she couldn't eat the broccoli as it was rock hard and not cooked properly. The rest of the party said their food was ok. And my napkin was dirty. Afterwards we sat in the bar and I went to order a bottle of Pinot Grigio and was told there was none left. I happened to see a bottle right at the back of the fridge and pointed it out to Naomi. She didn't seem to like that as her attitude afterwards was awful. My sister commented on how low the bar was stocked, the fridges were so empty and not a lot of choice of spirits, and Naomi mentioned that her managers manager cancels the orders and won't let them order what they need and we should complain as when they say something to her she ignores them. We also asked for the TV to be turned over as we wanted to watch the England game and the staff member said they didn't know how to do it! Really! Eventually, when a member of staff who knew how to change the channel, we got to watch it, but the screen kept going off literally every few seconds. The carpet in the dish ing area is filthy, so many stains on it. The bed was really comfortable, nice blackout curtains, the safe didn't work. Breakfast was good, nobody checked us in though, so we could have just walked in and not paid! My Mum and Dad love this hotel and we have been coming here every year for the last 8 years. Sadly it has gone so downhill. Food is shocking, service not great. Sadly I do not recommend this place at all. I gave it 2 stars as the bed and breakfast were ok.

Not a great first impression. We went to The Mercure Great Danes for a murder mystery evening. From start to finish The Mercure were not up to standard. There were no spaces in the car park, my nephew with a broken foot and our disabled family had to walk from the entrance gates ! We were given bread but with no plate to put it on, no knife to butter the bread with ! When they did bring out side plates they were saucers ! The table cloth on our table was soiled when we arrived and the room smelt of swimming pools. The starters were slapped on plates and not well presented, the food in general was very basic. There was no water on the tables. The waiting staff were rushing around and even the general manager was serving tables. There was very little choice of drink behind the bar, the only alcohol free drink was cider. We had to keep reminding them we had a nut allergy and two gluten free and waiting staff argued that the meals we'd ordered were not what we ordered. All in all not worth the ££ we paid for the evening. Wouldn't go back.

Rooms clean and modern, but noisy and warm. Booked for a family of 3 for one night on the way to Dover. Was worried after reading the reviews that it was going to be awful, but wasn't as bad as expected. Rooms were clean and modern, spotless bathroom with tea, coffee and biscuits provided, which was a nice touch. Beds were large with comfortable pillows. There were some stains on the curtains. The biggest downfall was that the windows were single glazed and the noise of cars and motrobikes racing at night were very loud. It also got unbereably hot in the room, there wasn't any air conditioning or fans. We used the swimming pool which was nice, although could benefit from a facelift. The hotel had beautiful outdoor grounds, and some toys for children outside the restaurant. We ate at the restaurant in the night, although were slightly confused about the difference in eating between the bar and restaurants. Both had the same menu. Food was ok, a little expensive. Would I return to this hotel? Yes for a quick stopover on the way somewhere, not for a nice holiday.
