Mostly a good hotel with pool, hot tub, and breakfast Overall, this was a fine hotel. The room was clean, the pool and hot tub were nice, and breakfast was what you expect from a hotel. The lemon water at the front was very appreciated. On the flip side, the interstate is very loud if you are on the front of the hotel. Our room heater stunk so bad that we had to turn it off and open the window for a while to clear the smell. The carpet in the hallway looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a long time. There was paint chipping in the room and dark stain (mildew?) on one of the walls. While we generally had a good experience, those negatives are also part of the picture and can't be ignored.

Three strikes and you’re out, and this was more than three! Checked in and has made a request for top floor end hall. Signed me, second-floor Accross from the elevator- completely ignoring the request. I would have completely understood if they were sold out, but as an elite member with over 75 stays a year, Frustrating. Comfort inn is supposed to offer either some bonus points, or a property gift and a drink based on your status. I was expecting the opportunity for a bottle of water and small snack, but this establishment does not offer that, and the clerk had no clue. I did not feel like getting back into my car. I’m driving to a store for a bottle of water. Getting into the room, everything seemed fine until I went to brush my teeth before bed. That is when I found the mold growing in the shower. This is completely unacceptable. As it was so late in the evening, I was not going to switch rooms. I mentioned this when I checked out in the morning asking a manager to call me. Nobody representing the hotel called me. This is customer service 101. Having some basic training, customer service focus/training, and housekeeping mentioning/following up on grout needing to be resealed are the basics. Now I wonder what else is going on that wasn’t as visible.

Pros and Cons We have stayed here several times on the way to Florida, and it definitely has gone downhill. The only good thing I have to say about this hotel is that the breakfast is pretty good and it's in a good location near a Starbucks and lots of other places to eat. The pool and hot tub were kind of gross - you couldn't see the bottom. There was a swastika carved into our TV. The elevator smelled like weed. While I appreciated the fact that they have a security guard in the lobby, the fact that they need a security guard in the lobby is concerning. We probably wouldn't stay again, unfortunately.

Not Clean…. Pick Another Hotel I am a pretty loyal Choice Hotel customer. This hotel is one of the dirtiest I’ve stayed in. And the thing I don’t understand is that it would be so easy to remedy these issues. The floors needed vacuumed. There was sticky stuff on the night stand and TV. There were random spots of food or goo of some kind on the walls. Red stains on the carpet. And dirt in the corners of the bathroom. Again, all of these issue could have been easily cleaned up with little effort. Sadly, this Comfort Suites gives the Choice Hotel brand a very bad name. I was going to mention these issues at checkout, however they did not care enough to even ask how my stay was. Oddly enough, a neighboring hotel had this message on their marquee: Our Rooms are Clean. I would recommend that hotel. Get it together Merrillville Comfort Suites.

Not what we expected When we arrived the lobby was empty and yet it took more than 15 min. to get checked in even though we had reservations. The bedspread on one of our beds was scattered with black dirt, the carpet had multiple stains and the wall next to the shower was in the middle of a repair. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast was adequate.
