An Ambience Vibe This location was awesome, and the breakfast was amazing. The king suites have jet tubs. The hotel is in a great location of restaurants and shopping. The area is very essential for quick access to the highway to New Orleans or surrounding areas.

Training in Metairie I booked the Sleep Inn on Utica St. for a training in town. The rating score on TripAdvisor is deceptive. When you drive up, it looks good and clean. The lobby looks ok too. It goes down from there. I was in room 401 and I will give it a few positives right there. When you walk in, the bed looked nice. The room was cool BUT the AC was set to 61 and could not be changed. There was a wet spot on the carpet next to the AC. The TV channel selection was good. Overall, the room was clean but needed a little cleaning on the light stands. The fridge worked well. The bathroom was ok but the faucet on the sink was loose but worked. The shower curtain has two big tears in it but functioned. The molding around the tub was warped on all sides causing a small leak on the floor. The breakfast was not good. The link sausage were dried out and eggs were runny. I think there was a waffle machine but didn't try it. The elevator was broke one afternoon and I had to walk up the stairs to the 4th floor. It is in a good location and the price was good but I would not stay here again!

Avoid. Friendly staff were the only good thing about this place. By a significant margin, the worst place either of us has ever stayed. Avoid if you value your health and safety. If this is your only option, equip yourself with a respirator and gloves. Someone from Choice Hotels corporate needs to visit and stay, if they dare. When secret shoppers exist for grocery stores, they certainly need to exist for hotels and pay a visit to this one, ASAP, so they can document the issues and get them addressed with management. We arrived for check-in about 20 minutes before 3:00 pm, but were checked in without any issue, assigned to Room 201. We observed housekeeping staff in other nearby rooms. First issue was the smell. This hotel reeks of mildew and stale cigarettes, and the hallways contain scent misters in an attempt to combat this, but it just makes things worse. Second issue was humidity. The individual HVAC units are set to 62° F when unoccupied to keep the humidity as low as possible to prevent visible mold/mildew, but as soon as the room is warmed the humidity skyrockets from ~75% to over 85%. The HVAC filters were somewhat dirty, but the louvers blowing into the room contained what appeared to be insect carcasses. I did not attempt to remove the cover, as I'd be charged for any damage. I expect mold/mildew thrives inside these units. The bathroom had some brown debris stuck to the floor near the door, which I wiped off with toilet paper. The grout needs bleached. Any metal fixtures are rusted due to the excess humidity. No ventilation in the bathroom, despite a vent in the ceiling...nothing appears to be drawn through it. Paint flecks and general dirt and debris throughout the room on the floor and on surfaces. No smoke detector is installed in this room. This was enough to prompt us to inform front desk staff about these issues and request another room. We informed the staff we'd be happy to pay to change to a "junior suite" thinking it may be better maintained. We were wrong. We were also not charged to upgrade. During a walk around the premises we discovered the ground-level stairwell door was incapable of locking and was open to the street, allowing anyone to enter unchecked. This is major security concern and is, frankly, unacceptable. We moved to Room 205. We found the same or similar issues discovered in Room 201, though perhaps to a lesser degree. This room at least had a smoke detector and the linens weren't quite so stained. With that said, the bathroom had orange cosmetics smeared on the wall that I could wipe off with toilet paper. There was a sticker on the wall above the jetted tub (which had cracks and grunge throughout). The shower curtain was also too small and nearly unusable due to age/use. Bathroom vent had clumps of dust/debris inside. Ceiling had soft drywall and paint separated from drywall due to water damage from upper rooms. The hide-a-bed sofa was relatively comfortable, but had old stains and caked-on food debris. Underneath we found a desiccated shrimp carcass and some...dried mustard? We made the mistake of sleeping here. At around 2:00 AM, a female wearing hotel-branded clothing was carrying on a loud conversation just outside our window with some male in street clothes, and the male was smoking marijuana, with the smoke entering our room through the HVAC. I ended up with a sinus infection, likely due to mold, mildew, and who knows what else, both inside the livable areas and hidden behind the walls. After sleeping here only one of the two nights we booked, we spent the day in NOLA, then returned to check out early, before 5:00 PM. We were unable to bear staying another night. Did not request any refund.
