If you like to be the only guest and have crows for company. Do not stay here. The hotel isn’t completely finished renovating. I only saw one other guest, it was very scary. Cold room, cracks in hotel floor, wiring issues with bathroom lights. Front seat very unhelpful. Even hung up on me. Crows lived in the tree outside my hotel window. Not one or two but covered the tree. Crowed most of the night. Terrible sleep. Do not recommend. Too many other options near by.

Loft 523 has Lost its Charm I was very much looking forward to this stay, as I have stayed at Loft 523 in years past. There were a number of very small things that unfortunately added up. Upon our arrival, the hotel never alerted us that there was a road closure due to construction on Gravier St. Upon early arrival, we did have to wait one hour before the room was ready. Upon returning to officially check in, the front desk alerted us that they thought our room was ready, so they went ahead and provided us with our room keys. Upon arriving at our room, the door was left cracked and was never completely closed, which was a bit of a concern. There were a number of issues in our room, including broken/missing shades on the windows, a ladder on the porch that was never removed by maintenance during the entirety of our stay (we ended up moving it ourselves to enjoy the porch area), a dirty mattress we, unfortunately, did not notice until the fitted sheet came undone on our last day at the hotel, as well as non-working outlets, a broken bathroom makeup mirror, and a dirty tub. The glass in the shower still had water stains, which led me to wonder if the shower had been cleaned prior to our arrival. The toilet was very slow and difficult to flush as well. After my previous experience at Loft 523, I was excited to be back, but unfortunately, this boutique hotel has gone downhill since my last stay. During my first stay, there was a bar in this hotel. This time around, there was no bar and no amenities available to guests in the lobby, not even water. In order to take advantage of hotel amenities, including water, we were directed to the International House. For the cost of our stay, I am not sure I would come back. Great location and great concept, but it needs some work.

It's clean, but not well kept A lot of little things were broken in our room and the rooms of our friends who also stayed at Loft 523. It's like routine maintenance and upkeep is not performed at all. Make up mirror was broken, the switch for the fan was broken and the light did not work (maintenance did come change the fan switch out, but still no light), one of the screens on the windows was broken and could not be raised, the shower pressure was low, we could not change the channels on the TV from our bed due to the poor positioning of the box, and the water jug was removed from the lobby and we were told to go across the street to IH to get water. The bathroom and room lighting is also INCREDIBLY dim - definitely too dim to try and do makeup. Truly too many small things not working for what should be a nice, boutique hotel and the price we paid.

Avoid this place. I can't even call it a hotel. Literal crap on the wall in the room. This was the second worst hotel experience of my life. Check-in was a pain. Both numbers listed by the front door were constantly busy. Only when my wife read a review, she noticed that we had to go to another hotel to check in. The first room barely had any toilet paper (not even a spare roll), most of the lights weren't working, including the large lamp not even having a bulb in it, the floors were filthy, & the workmanship for the whole place is half-assed. The second room at least had more working lights (but still, a lot of the ceiling lights were out). However in this second room, in the bathroom, there was literally crap on the wall with hairs attached to it near the tub. I was able to take one of the coffee stirrers in the room & remove the crap from the wall. The shower heads are useless & neither room had blackout curtains, so the room was still pretty bright as we tried to sleep. The large roaches in the hallways & room freaked out my wife. The shampoo, body wash, & conditioner were all pre-used, with the body wash label washed off. Given how dirty the floors are, I hoped there would be slippers. In the first room there were none, but in the second room we moved to, there was a single pair that I let my wife use, even though they looked like they were used themselves. The random yoga mat in the closet was disgusting. The hardware for the bathtub was installed wrong, with the handheld shower head not even working. The bathtub photographs really well (which is why my wife wanted to stay at the hotel), but the drain was improperly installed & the tub drains even when in the closed position. Overall, this hotel feels like rich parents with a kid that wanted to try their hand at decorating and designing a hotel, so they bought a building and let the kid go wild. It's so bad, I want to dispute the charge with AMEX. During checkout, wasn't even asked how the stay was. Probably because the staff knows this is a poorly built & maintained joke of a hotel. If there is one saving grace of this hotel, it was the AC in the room. Given how humid NOLA is, it was nice to be able to have a room set to 65 unlike most chain hotels limiting how cool a room can get.

Avoid this place I had a very bad experience with Loft 523. I highly recommend you do not stay here. Communication with the host is nonexistent 99.9% of the time; but if you do get a chance to speak with them they will be rude and condescending. Loft 523 messed up our dates. We booked through AirBNB for August 10-12, but the hotel had us for August 9-11. So, after repeated messages over multiple days, we finally managed to reach the hotel (International House) that runs Loft 523 to ask them to correct their mistake. Loft 523 said they couldn't modify the reservation because Hotel Tonight owns it? And we are subject to Hotel Tonight's policy, even though we booked through Airbnb and not Hotel Tonight? As an example of how inept Loft 523 is at this: they never responded to Airbnb when Airbnb tried to let the host know they were going to cancel the reservation and give us a full refund. If Loft 523 won't respond to Airbnb in order to prevent from losing out on the entire cost of the reservation, do you think they're going to respond to you if you have an issue? I recommend you avoid this place. Or, if you do book with them, don't try to communicate with them. If you're able to speak with them, they will treat you like an idiot even though they're the ones who made the mistake.
