Looking Tired I've been a loyal customer of this hotel for the past 30 years. Unfortunately, some of the furniture in the rooms has been there for the past 30 years! Some of the rooms really look tired now and the bathrooms definitely need to be refreshed. How many hotels still have a bath with a shower over them? It's time to rip them out and put in a walk-in shower. The rooms are clean and tidy, even though some of the fittings are a little dated. We had to change rooms due to the bath making a gurgling sound every time anyone in the hotel put water down a sink or flushed a toilet. The rooms could do with a bit more light. There are lamps either side of the bed and another on the desk but the rest of the room is very dim. The hairdryer is in the desk drawer so it's impossible to see the mirror and see what you're doing due to the poor light from the desk lamp. The hotel staff are always great and really helpful, and the location overlooking the Tyne is beautiful. The only drawback is that everywhere from here is up a hill, but that's the disadvantage of being down at the riverside. Only one lift was working during the duration of our stay. Also, it snowed while we were there but the hotel didn't bother to clear the snow from the entrance or put some grit down. It's little things like this that make the difference to a customer. The breakfast is always good with a wide selection of hot and cold food. Evening meals are also very good but we were disappointed with the Sunday lunch this time. The previous time we stayed, we decided to hang around a bit longer and have Sunday lunch. It was amazing. This time we did the same and wished we hadn't bothered. The vegetables looked like they had been shown a pan and then put on the plate. I had a battle trying to cut a parsnip and the parsnip won! When we complained, the waiter came back and said that the chef agreed with us. So why are you serving it? It's a nice hotel in a great location but I feel that it's time for an update and some improvement to justify the asking price.

Great customer service Lovely time at the Copthorne Newcastle this weekend. The hotel was spotlessly clean, warm, welcoming and very festive. Just what you want at Christmas. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel for making our stay feel special, we'll hopefully be back in 2026.

A very welcoming hotel with great views, friendly professional staff and excellent breakfast! We have stayed here several times and always found the staff to be friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable and with very little corridor noise. Our room this time was in the middle of three connecting rooms and the layout wasn’t great but not a big deal. We had breakfast here for the first time which was very impressive. Great buffet choices and cooked breakfast and pastries were nice and hot - very good value for money. The hotel also has lovely paintings of local scenes throughout and is in a good location for the river view and city amenities.
