Exceeding expectations, leisure facilities and afternoon tea The hotel doesn't look anything from the outside but the inside main areas and facilities I visited were tastefully done, clean and have a lovely cosy, warm feel. We had a voucher for use of the gym, pool and afternoon tea which proved very good value. The hotel is in a picturesque location and the well equipped gym looked out over pretty woodland, quite soothing and spectacular with it's autumnal colours. The pool is small but lovely, the water a nice temperature for just floating around or a relaxing swim, the jacuzzi is good and there are loungers for relaxing. My husband (being a connoisseur of steam rooms) rated it as one of the best. There are classes in the pool at certain times (check online) and we chose a Tuesday morning to avoid this The staff throughout were friendly and efficient and the afternoon tea was very good too (although I would have preferred a sausage roll in place of one of the two scones for variety). All in all it was a lovely visit. This is the second time I have used the hotel facilities this year and no doubt I will be returning next year.

Would not go back Afternoon tea was very poor the only thing acceptable was the finger sandwiches scones had been heated which we did not ask for and they were dry as sticks.

Visiting Newcastle races Easy to get to from the A1. Room was quite large and clean. There was only 1 pillow each but just asked at reception for another and no problems Dinner was served in the main lounge/bar don't expect gourment but meal was basic and adequet and good price.Breakfast was served in the main dining room as buffet with all the usual breakfast items. Both public rooms(lounge and restaurant) were large and very nice with good atmosphere in lounge the night we were there Found all the staff friendly and helpful We were staying to go to Newcastle racecourse which is right next door. Would use this hotel again if we are at Newcasle as thought it good value for money Gary Maddock

Good for the price, but REALLY uncomfortable pillows. Travelled with my 12yo daughter. Check in was easy (I’d already checked in online) so had our key and was in our room quickly. First impressions were great, rooms tidy, bathroom clean. Until we decided to order room service, due to my daughter feeling unwell. Spent 20 minutes on the phone, getting passed around or just ringing out. Ended up going down to reception to ask if we could order, having to leave my daughter alone which isn’t not ideal. Food came quickly, and looked lovely. The burger was far too salty so couldn’t eat it all. Personal preference. When it came time to sleep, the pillows were solid as rocks. My daughter used the cushion to sleep with and I used my rolled up jumper. The windows were old and draughty, could hear everything outside and the windows made the room chilly. We stayed here as it was a good price for a Sunday night.

Dirty rooms and beds Dirty rooms, pubic hair left on bathroom floor, stains on bed sheets, blood splatters on curtains. Upon looking for hairdryer i came across dirty socks and knickers left in the bedside table drawer by the last resident. Food prices are terrible for what you get, i got steak frittaters (i think they were called) i got 5 little cubes of meat with frozen chips which cost me £18. I addressed my concerns with the manager upon our departure who aplogised and said she'd pass concerns to housekeeping manager and we left with a warm bottle of water as an apology. I wouldnt reccomend staying here at all. Much nicer places to stay then this for the price. Place needs a good scrub
