Disorganised service, misleading dog-friendly experience, poor cleaning… We stayed here for New Year’s Eve from 30/12 to 02/01. We booked with the expectation of a quiet stay with access to the spa and, importantly, that the hotel would be dog-friendly. The stay was „fine” until we requested our room to be cleaned. Housekeeping does not clean rooms daily unless you request it by hanging the door sign. We left the sign on the door on 31/12, but unfortunately no one came. As it was New Year’s Eve, we decided to leave it and request cleaning on 01/01 instead. It is also worth mentioning that the room was not very clean upon arrival. There was noticeable dust throughout the room, and the windows were poorly sealed/very old as you could actually feel cold air and wind coming through them, which made the room uncomfortable, especially during winter. On the morning of 01/01, we left the cleaning sign on the door again and also asked at reception for the room to be cleaned. We then left for several hours and returned around 4pm to find that the room had not been touched at all…no clean towels, no toilet roll, no clean bedding. We went to reception and were told the manager would come to check. The manager, Lisa, came and “cleaned” the room. By cleaning, I mean she brought new towels, emptied the bins, flushed the toilet, and replaced the toilet roll. There was no vacuuming and the bathroom floor was still wet and dirty. There was also no warm water on 31/12, meaning we had to take cold showers. I understand that many rooms may be using water at the same time, but a hotel with around 200 rooms should be prepared to provide warm water for its guests. Another issue was the hotel’s claim of being “dog-friendly.” For the first two days, there was no problem with our dog being in the room or in the restaurant area with us. Staff explicitly told us it was fine for dogs to sit on the furniture, which we confirmed with them. However, on the last day, the same manager, Lisa, told us that dogs are not allowed on any furniture. When we explained that this had not been an issue for the previous two days, she simply said, “They shouldn’t have allowed it.” This suggests a lack of consistent rules. If staff allow dogs on furniture and there is a designated dog-friendly area of the restaurant, why is it suddenly a problem? I should also add that photos included in this review clearly show our dog sitting on the furniture throughout our stay without any issue raised by staff at the time. During our stay, around 10 other dogs were also sitting on furniture when this manager was not present, so this was clearly common practice. Finally, regarding the spa: advertising a heated pool and jacuzzi implies that the water will actually be warm. Unfortunately, both the pool and jacuzzi were barely lukewarm. Overall, this stay fell well below expectations due to poor cleanliness, uncomfortable room conditions, inconsistent policies, and a lack of basic service delivery. Until these issues are properly addressed, we would not choose to stay here again nor recommend it to others.

GRAND ? Hotel ……,by whose standards ? Stayed two nights – though in hindsight, one was a mistake. The duvet was so thin I could've used it as a tea towel ,no blankets in the cupboard or any spare pillows .Bed had two lumpy little pillows, headboard covered in dust so thick I left a tram line on the top of the headboard when I traced my finger along it. Oh they had two little throw pillows .Base stained, furniture outdated, curtains half off the rail. Walls streaked with stains and marks ,bathroom fittings from the Stone Age, vent furred with fluff. Out the window aluminium frames are rusting and the car park's literally crumbling. Checkout 10 am – asked for 12 because I was poorly, got ‘10:30 max'. 10:15 the cleaner starts knocking, barges in and says ‘t”check out 10am!”Had to scramble out with one sock on. For the price, skip it. There’s absolutely nothing grand about these bedrooms ! The lobby looks v plush but as soon as you get to the accommodation corridors it’s like the tower of terror hotel ride at Disney ,old ,1920s minimal servicing . I checked out ,not an “did you enjoy your stay to be heard “ ,booked back into the holiday in up the road ,I should have stayed there rather than thinking “grand hotel “ actually meant grand! 2 star at best

Experience with staff. I’d like to give a special mention to Emma from the breakfast staff. She was genuinely lovely—always helpful, patient, and kind to everyone she interacted with. You can tell she truly cares about guests, and her positive attitude made a big difference to my stay. She’s a real asset to the hotel.

Over priced room Value is steep. We stayed in a double room with no working heating. Plug in heater switched off after 2 minutes. Given another one with only 3 wheels and didn’t make the room very warm. Pillows like bricks that every time my husband moved I felt like I was getting hit in the head. Decor very dated and vents cannot work with the amount of dust crawling onto the walls out of them. If it was £47 with breakfast I would have been happy as heard the breakfast is good here. Lots of facilities spa/leisure wise but we didn’t use. Location. Was perfect for what we were in Newcastle for, reception are/bar had a nice festive atmosphere just shame about the quality of the room.
